If the Masses do get in . . .

If Doug puts up the link on the THS we could very well get hit with a ton of posters, which from our perspective is fantastic. But it might be good to be ready for this and have some kind of plan to deal with the the bandwidth surge.

In the THS forum it seemed the most business was done in general followed by off topic. It might make sense to have the admins and mods here on standing orders to go split the forum accordingly when the time comes. So that if and when any one forum gets closed suddenly for bandwidth, we are all still in another location and able to replicate the lost forum quickly.

sounds paranoid i know but just a thought.

i think things are going just fine as they are- just wanted to think ahead a little.

It would also be great at some point to set up a membership email list so that if the lights ever go dark again everyone can get an email as to what is going on.

Let´s see. I´m positive, and personally can´t belive that an internet forum that has some traffic has no chances to exist anymore(what are forums there for, then?).
So, what exactly do you mean by split the forum? If you have any ideas, for spinn-off boards to add say it. You´re suggestions are welcome!

i like the forum just as it is now and am not advocating a a split.

If we get a few hundred registrations over the next few days, or certainly if we exceed the thousand mark, it might make sense to have keep one forum for DP (this one) and then make another one similiar to it for off topic discussion, and just link the two up top in the header with html. All free websites have internal bandwidth limits, but some police those limits more efficiently than others (some are automated others just use system admins to notice the usage). The main idea for splitting in that case would be to make it harder for the sys admins to notice the traffic- i.e we would be segregated into two forums rather than just one.

Generally the more users we have I would think the worse the off topic problem will become, so as of now its clearly not a problem, but the link on THS just went up so i was just thinking about it.

This site advertises that it has no traffic limits, but you never know...
