Re: "Live Encounters" DVD
I pre-ordered mine on September 18.
I see they just shipped me Glenn's new DVD today. I had been excited about that one until hearing some of the less-than-glowing reports about the production value.

Re: "Live Encounters" DVD
Well guys, after viewing the final product I'm not overly impressed, but I'll buy it.
A pro shoot is always better than a bootleg,if anything for the production value.
I can say with no problem right off the bat, that the sound mix on this could've been better, but maybe that couldn't have been helped.
The interviews are overlong, but not a complete letdown.
I don't see why on earth they put this out in audio format, other than for collective purposes, and the Polish fans.

Re: "Live Encounters" DVD
Finally got around to watching this.
Sadly, during shipping the DVD came loose. It had a lot of scratches. Most of the DVD is ok to watch, but it breaks up due to the scratches during parts of Steve's interview and during Speed King.
Judging how hard it's been to get a copy of this DVD, I doubt I'll have it replaced -- there's no guarantee I'll actually get another copy.
For the performance, Steve's playing stood out. While I prefer Purple with Blackmore, I could certainly appreciate that Steve brought something to the table on stage. A lot of fire in his play on this particular show.
Gillan does sound terrible, but kudoes to him for going on with the show. Some points made me want to wince, though.
The interviews were decent. Nothing really new, but I appreciate it anytime someone puts a little extra effort into a DVD instead of just slapping the show on and that's it.
As I was putting the DVD on the shelf with the other DP DVDs, it struck me how good we've had it. There was a time when we had nothing of Purple on DVD. And here in the states, VHS was much better.
Now, we've got a bunch of official titles out there. (And I keep my fingers crossed for a good Perfect Strangers Tour DVD.)
If only Ritchie (or whomever is in control) would get some Rainbow DVDs produced.

Re: "Live Encounters" DVD
I got the limited slim-box edition, which has the whole show on 2cd as well.
The performance is awesome! Like Jake said, especially Morse is great. And Gillan doesn't sound good.
Morse's and Lord's duels soudn good, and Paice's drumming is better than I thought.
The quality of picture isn't the greatest possible though, but that doesn't bother me that much.

The '84 Australia DP show is screaming to be released. And I heard that the Rainbow '77 show is on the list for official release.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the 84 show (although I suppose it might get released ... someday ).
The Rainbow 1977 one on the other hand will probably see the light of day officially in the next couple of years or so since Rockpalast has started putting shows out on DVD (witness the Thin Lizzy one they released a few months ago) and will probably see the demand for the Munich gig.
