No experience with DVD, only with vhs. PAL and NTSC has nothing to do with region coding. It's television technique. If you DVD player does not offer to playback NTSC on PAL, or your television is not a multi system television (again nothing to do with dvd regions), I'd say forget it. You have to chec k your manuals. I believe SONY, JVC and PHILIPS normally offer multi system with their tv-sets.

But do not confuse the region coding (made for making hollywood happy), with tv-systems. They have nothing in common, except that US is one region and uses NTSC (as one of the few nations in the world)

Of course if you're happy with watching them on your computer, then a cheap drive should do the trick, never mind NTSC or PAL (so I've been told). Then you can reencode them DVD and burn it on another disc.

Wait for wormdp to answer here, he knows far more than I do, if he doesn't send him a pmemoticon

Any region encoding can be cracked easily by using code numbers on your DVD remote, the hard part is finding the codes, not cracking them.
You can also do this for the footage contained in DVD Audio format, the footage can only be viewed of you have a DVD-A player, but it can be cracked by using your remote as well.
Google it! emoticon

But you can't change between NTSC and PAL as you like, unless the transmitting unit in the set allows it. NTSC and PAL has nothing to do with region coding.
Else you're almost right, it's not _all_ DVD players that allow the region coding to be changed.

a)Go back and read my post carefully and tell me where on earth I mention PAL and NTSC having anything what so ever to do with region ENCODING????????????

b)Where do you get your information?
Any and all DVD players can be region cracked, you just have to know how to do it. emoticon

Yes, any DVD player can be region cracked, but it`s not a question of pushing the right combination on the DVD remote. This is only to activate it. More important for a " Region Crack" is the firmware of the player. You can find a lot of firmware updates for nearly every modell and of cause a few cracked firmwares which allowed nearly everything.

On the other hand:
The companies who produces DVD players produces their players not only for one region but for every region. So every player is a multi region player limited only by the firmware. And this is chanceable

And it really has nothing to do with NTSC-Pal
