Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
Yes you are correct, I am in region 1. The lowest of the low when it comes to region release. Everything I want seems to get released everywhere else in the world before region 1. You will have to drop a line to the DPAS and see what the visual was on it. I checked there web page in the store section and it does not state what it was, if any.

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
DVD-A for this is actually down in the record shop where I live. It is considerably expensive though and I just dont know if it is worth it. Would buying this DVD-A be worth the 30 some dollars I have to pay?

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
That would be a resounding yes Brad,I didn't know it was out in that format,I thought it was SACD only, hhmm.
If you do buy it though, you won't be able to play it in a cd player, you have to have
6.1 home theater type system,if you have 5.1 you can listen to it but not to it's full effect,it's just not quite the same.
This will cost you hundreds though, but it's well worth it for many reasons besides just being able to experience DVD-A.
I have yet to hear any live recordings in DVD-A but if it's anything like studio as far as how enhancing it is,then it's got to be pretty damn awesome.
Time for me to seek out and purchase a couple,I know that Total Abandon has seen
a release in this format,I better start there.

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
Again don't get bitten with the region format!! As far as I can hear, SACD and DVD-A do come out the same in the 5.1 arena. I have not purchased a disc yet that has both the same matial on it but I have experienced the difference between DVD-A and DTS audio. If you ask me DTS wins hands down!!

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
I don't know what your system consisits of wormdp but your missing something here,DTS is opened full 6.1 but DVDA is specified by the audio mix and you can't get that in DTS with music unless it's a dvd video mixed in DTS and it still isn't as good as DVDA.
If you put just any cd in your home theater
you will not get it in DTS just because you have DTS,however DVDA is
mixed especially for 6.1 and has the full 6 speaker and sub woofer effect without mere simulation. You have to have the mix on the dvd combined with the decoder and 6.1 speaker syStem.
So even a movie or concert DVD in DTS is not DVDA
compliant and doesn't even have as good of a sound mix, trust me,DVDA is the best sound existing on the market today.
I've been over this so many times in these forums that it's begining to get old.
(see the DTS thread for more info)

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
Well I hate to arrgue about formats but I am affraid you are wrong. Check out this web page http://www.5point1.com/home.html It will explain how and why DTS audio is done and is available for your favourite LP's. DTS is mixed special for the DTS format. DVD-A is mixed for the DVD format. Both formats do exist and survive. Yes there is a third format out there. Check your more recent DVD-A mixes. They have the DTS mix also. DTS and DVD-A have joined forces just recently and are making headways against the SACD system. The record companies have divided us up and are making us buy different formated machines. Yes they are making multy played machines but they do not have the top of the line processors in them. I am realy getting tired of people not keeping up with the latest technology but I don't mind explaing it over and over again.

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
I never believed that you aren't up on technology wormdp, considering the multi sourcing you have done with bootlegs.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that
I prefere DVDA at this point over DTS
until I hear better this is just how I feel.
I don't really need to do anymore research on the subject,I have Audigy 2 7.1 and two 6.1 systems on computer and DTS home theater
on the high fi in the family room and a serious analog stereo in the studio.
I have done no scimping but can't keep spending and spending.

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
I too use to prefer DVD-A but wait until you invest in the DTS system. Since you have all of the pieces I suggust you go over to EBAY or the 5.1 web page and purchase a disc. You will love it!!

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
My system has DTS,so like I said I have it
just not on my computers,However when I play my
Deep Purple EP DVD it appears to be playing in the DTS mode which has me believing that
Audigy 2 is decoded for DTS as well though.
Are you aware of or do you have Audigy 2 soundblaster?

Re: Concerto '69 DVD and CD
Yes I am aware that the Audigy system is the cream of the crop for soundblaster. Yes that DP EP DVD does state DTS but the DTS audio CD's are mixed (or in some cases in older material re mixed) for the full DTS system. My DTS decoder is for my home entertainment system. I am sorry but I don't feel that the computer systems are as good as the top of the line home entertainment systems yet. Now I do say yet because I also feel that one day our compter's will be driving the home entertainment system, just not yet.
