Perfect Strangers DVD

Now that I have your attention. The following is part of an email
that I have sent to Bruce Payne, Roger Glover and Drew Thompson.
Since 2004 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Perfect
Strangers I thought up a great way to honor its release. Those that
agree please help show interest by contacting anyone you know who
could get something like this going.

Disc 1 (The Making of a Reunion)

• Interviews with each member of the band discussing the
reunion and the recording of the album. This would include a track-
by-track feature similar to the Machine Head DVD released in 2002.
In addition it would also feature actual footage of the recording of
some of the tracks (if available).
• Son of Alerik – The full 10 minute video of this jam
session
filmed as it was recorded.
• Various live clips (complete songs) from the Providence RI
show filmed March 3, 1985 (A fantastic show).
• Backstage video footage shot during the Perfect Strangers
world tour 84-85
• Perfect Strangers – promo clip '84.
• Knocking at Your Back Door – promo clip '84.
• Nobody's Home – promo clip '85.
• Under the Gun – promo clip '84 (minus the time coding).
• Various jam sessions during the recording of the album. For
example: Cosmic Jazz and RIJIR. If footage doesn't exist of the
actual performances, use candid band footage similar to Fire Ice and
Dynamite/Fire in the Basement from the New Live and Rare DVD.
• News footage and clips from the Knebworth, UK show June 22,
1985.
• Live clips from the filmed but unaired first night in Paris
Palais Omnisports, France July 8, 1985.
• Various, never before seen, photos of the band during the
recording sessions as well as on stage during the tour.
• A separate audio track featuring the entire Perfect Strangers
album remastered in 5.1 digital surround sound. As a bonus - each
track will now continue past the fade (as done with the 25th
anniversary remasters).

Disc 2 (Deep Purple Live in Sydney Australia December 12, 1984)

• The complete concert remastered in 5.1 digital surround sound.
• Miscellaneous backstage footage and interviews from the tour
not included on the first disc.

Sounds cool, but a very intense undertaking it would be,if they can't even get off the road by October to get into the studio as reported months ago(but are booked for shows instead),then I just don't see a project like this happening.

That's a great idea, Russ ! Who knows, maybe it's already in planning, it's certainly an event worth remembering. -Afterall, all the members still rate the album as one of their favourites. Perhaps now is the time for me to ask this question, I seem to remember reading ages ago that a documentary team and camera crew were present in Vermont when they recorded the album, probably a French team/crew. Somebody obviously were as we have the PS clip featuring many cool scenes, so there's bound to be loads more laying around somewhere. Was a documentary planned at the time (hence the footage), and this idea later dropped ? I've certainly never seen or heard of it, unfortunately. The NL&R DVD has some PS live stuff, would be nice to see more of it. The inner sleeve of the LP also featured several photos.

In 1985 Ian Paice spoke of such a documentary being worked on,I take it they scrapped it,then later put together POHM.

But POHM is not their own work, is it ? It's a collages of different periods from the look of it, though some of the interviews were done for it, it's also lacking in PS stuff. The PS session footage must exist somewhere.

I have heard many times over the years of a documentary done to be shown on MTV in '85 but scrapped.

Check the time-coding on the Under the Gun promo. It shows time clocked up around 9 hours. There is probably tons of footage of the band including jamming. We know for sure that Son of Alerik was filmed.

Assuming quite possibly it's the guy Gillan is talking to about the sport events at the end of the Under The Gun video clip.

POHM is totally Bruce Payne work emoticon

And I have also read (in DTB I think) that it was Bruce Payne filming the band during the making of PS.

So if it's right, don't expect anything good when you see what he did with POHM
