Re: Come Hell or High Water
I have had this video since it first came out in Japan,
CIT IS TOTALLY GOING THROUGH THE MOTION'S,JUST A BUNCH OF
REPEATED NOTES THAT DO NOTHING BUT MUSH TOGETHER.
ANYA,C'MON MAN WERE TALKING REAL CRAP HERE,PULL OUT THE CHOHW CD,IF YOU HAVE IT.
THEN TELL ME HE'S NOT GOING THROUGH THE MOTION'S ON THE DVD
THE STUGGART GIG SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED ON VIDEO
AND THAT'S A NO BRAINER.
It's really a surprise to me they didn't release Stuggart
because it was filmed.
No offence RH,I do like CHOHW but Ritchie was not on that night,by his own standard's anyway.

Re: Come Hell or High Water
I agree that it's not his best work by any stretch of the imagination but it's far from going through the motions, I disagree with you there.
NP is what I'd call going through the motions.

One of the reasons that Ritchie was so pissed off that night, was the others decision to record a show at this point of the tour and not much earlier, mainly because of IG voice."But nobody did listen to me" he said.

Re: Come Hell or High Water
I think Blackmore was/is just a torn-faced, spoilt brat; and the Purple we're seeing now is so much better for his absence....

'Though I do understand him regarding that particular argument. He cared for the most possible quality.Nothing wrong with that.

Re: Come Hell or High Water
I agree with RH about NP,but the CIT solo isn't much better.
Lesliescream doesen't seem to realise that Blackmore fully agreed to be filmed that night, and Gillan's performance
on the tour had zero to do with the games Ritchie insisted
on playing that night.
It was the film crew that he was unhappy with, who does he think he is,a film director or something,he couldn't control every little thing to do with the proceeding's
and that's what he was so frustrated about(.)
He pulled his little trick at the last minute, just before
entering the stage as to gain as much power of the situaiton as possible when he knew it would hurt the
crowd, the film crew and the band the most.
Pretty petty move if you ask everyone else involved.
Let me give you another example of such bullying,
The one night he had Candice backstage singing some
garbage while Jon Lord was soloing.
The next day they read a review that said something about Jon using a female voice sampling and that's the very straw that broke the camel's back.
After that Ritchie had no choice but to pack it in
and it was then that he decided he wouldn't be going on to Japan and he had no choice but to get out.
They were so pissed at him he knew he had gone too far and there was no way to turn back after that.
It's pretty easy to get away with something like that, when your onstage and your as loud as Purple, you can't really
hear every little detail so he knew he'd probably get away with it.
Talk about a !@#$ move, any self respecting artist would be pissed if a memeber of their band went behind their back's like that.
The incedent has been well documented if you think I'm
making it up.

Re: Come Hell or High Water
I didn't want to justify Ritchies behavior, only his point about recording earlier, which isn't a bad thought of him, isn't it?

Re: Come Hell or High Water
But quite interesting what you wrote about Candice voice, disturbing Jons solo.Interesting because when they showed the "Stranger In Us All" concert (Rockpalast gig) on the german TV,the opener "Spotlight Kid" got a bit messed up by some kind of female singing,as if a neighbour channel was disturbing, just when guitar and keyboard solo were on.
I have it on VHS and you can hear it quite well.Probably accidentaly...

Re: Come Hell or High Water
If he was so conerened with quality control,
then he should have just went out and had a great performance
instesd of letting his mental health get the best of him.
I'm not sure if the Stuggart show was pro-shot, but I think it was, cause it was definetly pro-recorded,which is why it ended up in part's on the cd.
This is just my opinion but I think Ritchie didn't want the better show released because he didn't want the band to have such a fine show on the market in order to justify his exit.
Why would he want the public to think he left at a time when they were playing so damn well?
The solo in Anya from that night is as good as he get's
the Mozart based jam was stunning to say the least.

Re: Come Hell or High Water
For some reason I was never able to hear Candice voice during Jon´s solo. Where should that be?
