I think you'll find that "This DVD offers a great overview of the rich history of this band" doesn't mean it includes a commentary - rather that the collection of footage itself "offers a great overview of the rich history of this band".

Re: Masters From The Vault

I found some more news! I quote:
"Rare footage of Deep Purple performing for the TV cameras in Europe during the early seventies. Included here are the songs that propelled the band to greatness. Also featured are the earliest known recordings of the classic Mark II line up of Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan and Glover. This is Deep Purple putting new material through it's paces that would ultimately surface on the legendary first album, 'Deep Purple in Rock', including the earliest versions of the all time classics 'Speed King' and 'Child in Time'. A unique feature of the material is the time and space allocated to Ritchie Blackmore to stretch out and demonstrate the amazing virtuoso technique.

As an added bonus the disc also features British TV footage of Ian Gillan and his band performing some Purple Classics for the cameras in 1989.

Featuring
Mandrake Root Improvisation.
Speed King
Hush
Child In Time
Wring That Neck
No No No
Hallelujah
Highway Star
When A Blind Man Cries
Demon's Eye
Lucille
Smoke On The Water"

Sounds not too bad emoticon

One word; pants! I'll buy it for Doing Their Thing, which is essential viewing and has not been released on DVD before but the rest are already available and completely useless, not too mention very recently released as well! They should have only had the 30 minutes of Doing Their Thing there and kept the price lower, what a bunch of rip-off merchants...

They should release Doing their thing in DVD format with that DVD-EP released last year.

Nothing new here, but at £7.99 delivered I think it will be worth having on DVD.

Half the Classic Rock price me thinks!

Yeah, £7.99 (just for Doing The Thing mind you, the rest is already available) is a fair price. It could have been a much better package though, what a wasted opportunity.

- Doesn't include Hush.... well I couldn't find it!
- strange running order, mixing Beat Club in amongst DTT.
- loads of typos, IG/RG joined in 1970, Grenada/Granada, even Hallelujha.
- titles that crop off all the intros.
- they've done some work to remove the titles during the Beat Club tracks.

What a wasted opportunity. This could have been so much better.
