Hughes/Thrall
I got this home in the post this morning. I'm currently listening to it expecting it to be bloody brilliant, but so far... nothing special. What do you all think?

Re: Hughes/Thrall
I assume you know at least three tracks of it from Burning Japan Live.
I Got Your Number and Muscle And Blood are true killer tracks in my opinion. First Step Of Love is another highlight and Coast To Coast(old Trapeze track) and The Look In Your Eye are amongst Hughes´ best ballads for me.
Great album (despite the typical 80s sound) that will grow on you each time you listen to it.
"How you been, alright..."

Re: Hughes/Thrall
I am familiar with a few of the tracks, but still it isn't that great in my opinion. the production is awful as well.

Re: Hughes/Thrall
It would badly need a remaster, yes. Still it shows Hughes in top form. They even considered a follow up several times in recent years and probably there will be one not too long from now. I like it, it´s one of my favourite records with Hughes on it.

Re: Hughes/Thrall
The sound is awful! I'll give it another spin sometime though. Fingers crossed...

Re: Hughes/Thrall
I am big Hughes and 80s AOR fan but I never managed to get into this one which I continue to find baffling... Like Ali's said the production is awful although the big problem with it is not so much the sound as the 'dated' feel it has, it's almost like listening to a Duran Duran album at times. There are (admittedly) some good tunes on it, some I find indifferent and some hugely cheesy ones which I avoid like the plague. The highlight would have to be First Step Of Love which is the only track off Hughes/Thrall I play often enough and also consider a true Glenn classic!

Re: Hughes/Thrall
The follow up should be better,or has that idea been scrapped already?

Re: Hughes/Thrall
Glenn has pretty much said as much before but in today's chat session he confirmed that Pat is too busy and there will be no HT 2. I think also that the masters were lost for this 1982 HT album....On top of that....if the master tape has loads of reverb printed on it....how can they get rid of it on a remaster?

Re: Hughes/Thrall
Many unremastered CDs have the following note:
This compact disc contains programm transfered from analog tape and therefore may contain some tape hiss and other anomalies that exist with analogue recordings.
That would be gone at least.
But you´re right that doesn´t change anything from the mix itself.
