CIT I feel is better on LIS.
The version of Wring That Neck on LIS blows away "Lazy" from MIJ.
Overall as much as I LOVE both albums (haven't heard the In Concert version of CiT yet, MR. ED!!!), my favorite version of CiT remains on Powerhouse, as well as Wring That Neck and Speed King.
For SotW, check out In Concert or one of the other shows from the three '72 live Japan shows.
Made in Japan has THE take no prisoners versions of Highway Star, The Mule, and Space Truckin', though.

Highway Star, in particular, is worth the dozens of times I've lost MiJ and had to buy it all over again.

Speed King vs Highway Star = Highway Star

Child In Time (1970) vs Child In Time (1972) = Child In Time (1972)

Smoke On The Water vs Into The Fire = Smoke On The Water

The Mule vs Paint It Black = Paint It Black

Strange Kinda Woman vs Black Night = Strange Kinda Woman

Wring That Neck vs Lazy = Lazy

Space Truckin' vs Mandrake Root = Mandrake Root

...without even incorporating the 'points' system, "Made In Japan" wins 5-2. emoticon

Ignoring that weird points system as well, here goes:

Highway Star
CIT 1972
SOTW
The Mule
SKOW
Lazy
Space Truckin

A Made In Japan thing, as it looks like.

A very close victory (4-3) for LIS it is.

The point system is very logical and useful:

The song of a pair that you find better gets 5.0 points. Then you estimate how good the 'losing' song is compared to the winner: an example: SK gets 5.0. Highways Star? Oh, it's almost as good, I'll give it 4.9. Now, if the pair would have been SK, again scoring 5.0 against Razzle Dazzle, the latter had gotten, say, 2,5.

It's easy!

a) The point system is very logical and useful

b) It's easy!

a) If we just substitute "arbitrary & subjective" for "logical" then we have something there! emoticon/ emoticon

b) That it is! emoticon
Unfortunately it might lead to scandals like the Olympics have suffered in recent years. emoticon ( emoticon )

a) Every topic, especially on the Lists forum is arbitrary and above all, subjective. But I really like the point system in this topic, it gives a certain quasi-scientific quality to comparing LIS and MIJ!

b) Huh? emoticon
