Slaves is not Rainbow and not quite DP either. If Slaves was a Rainbow album, I would say it didn't sound quite right. It will always be a Deep Rainbow album to me. Off subject but MKIII after Burn sounds like Purplesnake to me. nondisclosed_email@example.com (ffitz)Sun, 13 Mar 2005 18:03:42 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102263,from=rss#post102263https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102263,from=rss#post102263I'd take Straight Between the Eyes first, then Bent Out of Shape, then Slaves and Masters. S & M is a true Rainbow album. It had the same singer, guitarist, bass player, songwriters, producer, and management as Rainbow did 10 years later. Lord and Pace were session musicians just as Rosenthal and the drummers were earlier. Too bad truth in advertising laws couldn't have prevented S & M being labeled as Deep Purple.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Diostillrocks)Fri, 11 Mar 2005 17:20:05 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102262,from=rss#post102262https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102262,from=rss#post102262DTC wins for me, hands down.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Carramba)Wed, 09 Mar 2005 01:45:12 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102261,from=rss#post102261https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102261,from=rss#post102261I'll go with Bent Out Of Shape and Slaves & Masters, as the two best ones from this list. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Atle)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 21:45:31 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102260,from=rss#post102260https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102260,from=rss#post102260S&M is the best one out of those.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Niko Vidgren)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 12:27:03 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102259,from=rss#post102259https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102259,from=rss#post102259quote:Rahul wrote: Bent Out of Shape does it for me. But just when he had seemingly found what he was looking for, it was all over. I've been listening to BOOS recently and think it's the best JLT Rainbow. As far as good songs in a commercial format Street of Dreams is the prime example. Great lyrics and a perfect solo from Blackmore. Two very good insturmentals in Snowman and Anyone There?. RB's tone is wicked on them. I like Drinking With The Devil a lot more then I used to. It's a good simple heavy riff that Blackmore punctuates with his sound. I think the keyboard in the main riff needs to be louder though.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TeleCat)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 07:33:50 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102258,from=rss#post102258https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102258,from=rss#post102258 I think Blackmore got it - the expression of his 'commercial-rock' sensibilities - right the most times on "Difficult To Cure" + "Bent Out Of Shape". With 1991's "Slaves + Masters" the formula wasn't successfully concocted, in an overall sense.  Instrumentally, "Slaves + Masters" _does_ sound to me like a fairly decent Rainbow tape minus lyrics/vocals...with the lyrics/vocals it becomes the 8th Rainbow studio album 5 years ahead of "Stranger In Us All" (a far superior effort to "S+M", in my non-humble opinion).nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 05:47:43 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102257,from=rss#post102257https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102257,from=rss#post102257I went for Bent Out Of Shape and Slaves And Mastersnondisclosed_email@example.com (FlightOfTheRat)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 05:05:02 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102256,from=rss#post102256https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102256,from=rss#post102256Well I voted for SBTE and BOOS. These are sentimental faves of mine. S&M is solid but it doesn't have enough memorable hooks, while DTC has several strong tracks and memorable hooks but it's a bit inconsistent. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Purpaholic)Tue, 08 Mar 2005 04:02:30 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102255,from=rss#post102255https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102255,from=rss#post102255I guess if you want to get picky you could. But the point was, if you think it is as good or better give one of your votes to Slaves and then make a comment about which is the best. the poll is in effect a side point to the main question. The main question is meant to be answered as per my last sentence of the original post.  My answer to that is  I like Slaves the Best and then SBTE. BOOS is my least favorite.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Stargazer1976)Mon, 07 Mar 2005 21:16:11 +0000 Re: Slaves as Rainbowhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102254,from=rss#post102254https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p102254,from=rss#post102254 Hey, Stargazer? The commercial formula was applied perfectly. Please choose two favorites and if possible add a comment below to specify which one you like best.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Stargazer1976)Mon, 07 Mar 2005 13:46:37 +0000
