Well, it looks to me that Purpendicular and PS are the winners here. And Bananas a bit of a loser, as for the new album.

I also think that TBRO does surprisingly well for it being a generally unpopular album.

It depends what we are looking to get out of this list!

Stormbringer is probably my most listened to Purple album ever. Is it my favourite? Hell no.

Most listened to doesn't necessarily mean favourite. I answered the question based on my most listened to. If I answered it based on favourites, the list would be different. emoticon

That's why I can't put up this list. I don't have a clue what is played more or less, I change 'em a lot, in and out of rock.

Re: A personal rating...

Well, the Private did limit the possible selections to only the part of DP's catalogue that's been recorded/released since 1984...so that automatically excluded my favorite and most listened to Purple studio album, "Fireball". It's been my favorite for years + years now, but with the release of the remastered/remixed anniversary MkII albums from the early '70s, "Fireball" 's staus as # 1 was solidified beyond any realistic chance of ever being dislodged... the remixed "Machine Head" has put itself into my personal the "Top 5" of my 'favorite/most listened to' listings..."Who Do We Think We Are?" was already there, anyway. emoticon
If any of those 3 had been allowed under the Private's guidelines, then "Slaves + Masters", "House of Blue Light" + "Bananas" or "Purpendicular"* would've all been off the list.

*I probably would've had to have tossed a coin over this... emoticon

My order:

1. The Battle Rages On
2. Bananas
3. Perfect Strangers
4. Slaves and Masters
5. Purpendicular
6. Abandon
7. The House of Blue Light

All your comments are of course very accurate. I chose only the 1984-2003 era because I'm aware that the 70s albums are for many the essential Purple LPs (and so they would top the list and probably not too many of the later albums would appear on the list), and what I wanted to see is which of the later albums would you choose, which of them do you listen to most often. Plus I wanted to see if Bananas is standing the test of time so far.

I think Perfect strangers has stood the test of 20 years rather well. I wonder how Bananas will do measured against that.

The last year I've played Bananas the most (out of the post '84 list), cos it's the newest one. All of them has been played more than once the last year at my place. The big winner last year anyhow was Burn, ahead of Machine Head, I'd guess.

Bananas opens a can of whoop-ass on PS. The only reason that I haven't listened to Bananas as much is that it hasn't been out that long.

PS seems to be popular because it is the first reunion album. They could have put out an album of breaking wind and many on this board would declare it to be the best DP album yet.

I would guess that my list would be as such:
HOBL
TBRO
Purpendicular
S&M
Abandon
PS
Bananas.

Bananas will move ahead of PS in the near future.

Yes, that's very interesting. Of course it depends if one likes TBRO or not. I must say I like the album, maybe except "A Twist in the Tale". Well, I certainly listen to it more often than to Bananas or Abandon. I had thought the album wasn't that good but when Abandon and then Bananas was released I started arting TBRO higher. It's a bit sad but true.
