Rezi
if you've never heard "Tool",they are a sort of an industrial metal/scientific grunge, lately bordering on a darker, almost black metal approach.
I've withstood them twice in concert, and allthough they are well crafted in their art,can tend to bore visually.
Definitly worth a listen...

Saxon - Lionheart

The best Saxon record since the early eighties. Biff Byford have never sounded better, and the new drummer Jörg Michael is amazing. This is something all fans of old fashioned heavy metal should own!

It is amazing how many of the old NWOBHM bands are still around and kicking. Saxon was always great live and most of there studio records from the 80's were IMHO rock solid.

Re: Best albums of 2004

Thanks guys, I appreciate the recommendations. The only one mentioned that I actually own is the Chili Peppers' Hyde Park 2CD, which I was a bit disappointed in.

Overall I think it's been a pretty ordinary year for music - at least the music that I have heard. The only new album that has really excited me is Franz Ferdinand. The riff change in "Take Me Out" is wonderful, and the rest of the album features some really interesting, driven, guitar-pop tracks.

For those who are reading but not posting your favourite new album, are you of the view that 2004 has been a bit of a dud, or have you got something worth recommending?

So you would recommend their album? I have heard a few of their songs on the radio and I liked them, but haven't bought it yet.

I really enjoy the Franz Ferdinand album, some great pop riffs (albeit never quite finding that mystical fourth chord) and a nice touch in ironic lyrics. If you find yourself tapping your feet at the change in "Take Me Out" then the album should not disappoint - apart from the rubbish first track.

Still the only new album this year which has really excited me. I'm sure I'm forgetting some other good ones though!

I've only bought 2 cd's in '04 so far, and I like 'em both.

Tiles - Window Dressing
Gov't Mule - Deja Voodoo

Nothing else really jumped out at me.
