Re: MrEd's "Official" Essential Live Deep Purple Albums...

Nigel has me hook line and sinker,
I obtained Scan Nights in 1990 since it is an import and this was a bad time for finding imports where I live at that time
there was quite a downswing of availability, and ALTTW
in 1982 making it the better of ten years for me,but I see your point and take your correction with delight.
It's important to take note of my comment "Loosely" and I simply asked MrEd to clarify "in this thread" what exactly
he meant and intended for no one to take it this far.
My main beef here is calling an official bootleg such as LATO an "official"
Deep Purple release,I take note myself of In Concert being an EMI Harvest releases but there is a slight notation of it being releasesd while the band were currently defunct,so at the time of release it was
not considered to be something Purple would have ever considered being involved with, the band does have interest in their own recordings when their label releases them so they do release records, atleast to that extent anyway.
I take no offence here to anyones disagreement,to make my point perfectly clear,I file all "bootlegs" official or not
under "bootlegs".Thats just what I do,
anyone can do whatever they like and that is there choice. emoticon
Take note of my statement of "official Deep Purple output" Nigel.
No nonsence,just opinion. emoticon
The label put LATO out at Rogers request
since the band didn't feel it was up to scratch.I feel that's pretty much the same thing, again just the way I choose to see it. emoticon
Had Roger not done so,who would have?
I'm not sure who presented the tapes and made sure it was a good enough final product for release but there would have been nothing to release had he not taken up involvement with the project???

I would like to take this time to say that out of the three of you, Nigel is the best at pointing out my foot in my mouth
followed so very closely by a two way tie between the two others. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It's easy to spot.emoticon
Especially when your posts come through all garbled and we see the Dr Scholls imprint on your tongue.

Mr Ed,

Your thread has de-generated into official/unofficial bull, quite commonly associated with lawyers (with whom, by the way, I regularly deal with) !. Nevertheless, I would actually like to attempt to "answer your question" emoticon

I would, but my live collection is an embarassment compared to the others who have spoken on this thread.

Any info. I have to share would be 1/10th of yours, because I can only go by what I own, which isn't that much.....I mean I'm proud of what I own, but that doesn't count for much in the real world.

When I first set out to task of collecting Purple, I was going by the albums pictured in the discography of the Charlesworth book from the 1980's!! That thing is so out of date now, that it is hardly indicative of all that is out there.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's certainly a good start, and any new fans, or those who don't have live albums, and want a good starting point, and don't own a computer, I would direct them there first, but it is not a "catch all--end all", by any stretch of the imagination.

[NOW THERE'S A RUN-ON SENTENCE IF EVER I SAW ONE!!] emoticon

Again, I may be the best guy to come up with pretty, color coded methods of presenting the data, but I'm not the guy to compile the data. You would be most dissatisfied with my results..... emoticon

Actually owning the material you list for research/discography/reference purposes isn't absolutely necessary, John.
So get cracking on that (at least) 30 title Deep Purple live discography. You're the man for the job.
 Look at it this way:
"I need a volunteer. O'Flaherty, take a step forward.*" The good old Marine Corps way. emoticon

{EL BUMPO}...just thought I'd point out that people should definitely feel free to list what they consider to be their 'essential' Dp live albums...

As soon as I get a copy, I've a feeling that "Might Just Take Your Life" - the 2003 Sonic Zoom release of DP's California Jam performance - will replace "California Jamming" on my list.
Sonic Zoom generally does an excellent job, and the inclusion of "Lay Down, Stay Down" (though not one of my very favorite Purple songs - it's 'okay', though) alone probably will make it a more 'essential' live recording, from the viewpoint of finally having the complete show on one cd.
