After looking at my list once more, I'm a little shocked I neglected one of my all time favorite ballads - "Help", the definitive (to my ears + mind) version as done by Deep Purple.
I'll have to do an edit and knock something off emoticon

Yeah, I'm a tosser... emoticon

About Unchained Melody: I like Gene Vincent's version more. I think it was done in 1957. A great vocal effort, a nice guitar solo (a'la Johnny Meeks) etc. Check it out, UM fans!

Niko, get an album called Kerran by Dave Lindholm. It's one of my favourite albums. Has most of DL's greatest tracks, it's live (btw some of the tracks are from the Turku show I saw) and he has a great band (Silvennoinen etc). Superb versions of DL classics and his usual stream-of-consciousness banter in-between, and sometimes within, the songs!

Special mention:

Streets - Nadine (Gorgeous track by a tragically overlooked outfit. Fans of Neil Young's mellower side should enjoy this lot. A band formed in the mid 90s, their albums Downtown Saturday and Lit Up From The Inside are magical. Reflective, melancholy, but at times uplifting and relaxing. This track is just sublime. A very understated melody, accompanied by some highly reflective lyrics - 'I never asked the world for much. Dreams Were the only thing that I got. Go ask around, I dream a lot.' Sublime.)

Others:

Such A Woman - Neil Young
Expecting to Fly - Buffalo Springfield
The Last Goodbye - Poco
Lost without your Love - Bread
Sad Cafe - The Eagles
The way it always starts - Mark Knopfler
Hello Again - Tommy Bolin
Leaf & Stream - Wishbone Ash
Autumn - Edgar Winter Group
River - Terry Reid
A Message to Pretty - Love
Long Haired Lady - Quicksilver Messenger Service
The World Goes On - Barclay James Harvest
A Million Miles Away - Rory Gallagher
Who'll Stop the Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Saga - Mick Grabham

Rather than omitting an entry I'd also like to add Satisfaction Guaranteed by The Firm.
