Re: Bruce Springsteen
Growing up in New Jersey and not far from Freehold and Asbury Park, we've had Bruce shoved down our throats at every turn. Radio stations treat him like a god and many years ago a station in NY was trying to get Born To Run to be named the state song of New Jersey and just played the sh1t out of it.
I think he's boring as hell. His fans all claim what a great performer he is playing 3-4 hour sets. I've bout had enough after 3 minutes. He sings like his mouth is full and we know his head is empty. His songs are just boring stories told by a mushmouth.
Now I live in Pennsy and the local Poconos station should be called the Bruce station as every time I turn it on, which isn't often, he's playing and I can't take it no more.
I can't understand how he ever made it out of the dives in Asbury Park, which in itself is a dump.

Re: Bruce Springsteen
I have to agree that there's a point to what Rahul and RS wrote about his gigs: they are known to be far too long for others than hard core fans. The songs are streched to 7 minutes, but the way it is done makes it often boring: they are just playing the chords of a chorus, jumping around the stage... no solos or 'jamming' as such, just playing the same thing over and over again!
Speaking of solos, when I saw them a copule of years ago, it was both Little Steven and Nils Lofgren on guitars. Still, all the good solos were played by the Boss himself (surely one of the most underrated well-known guitarists).
Btw I just got a dvd of BS & the E-Street Band in Toronto '84. Otherwise a very good gig, but Bruce is dancing during many (esp. new) songs, and it looks very dodgy, so 1980s, like Wham for crying out loud - you know what I mean if you have seen the promo of Dancing in the Dark (yes, on this gig too a girl gets to dance with Bruce on stage in the end of that song).

Re: Bruce Springsteen
I've been in a heavy Springsteen mode recently, revisiting, albums, dvds, bootlegs, etc. Any big fans left of him here or is it true that Purple fans are condemned to find him just "boring"?

Re: Bruce Springsteen
There is an excellent Springsteen cover band called the B Street Band. They play various venues on the East Coast. I catch them in Atlantic City when the are there. One of the best, if not the best, Springsteen cover bands out there. Maybe more interesting than Bruce, himself.

Not boring, no. "Shite" would be my description of choice. See also, "grating". if I ever had a concept of hell it would be waking up to find myself trapped at a Springsteen concert with REM as support band... even just once.
--- And another thing I won't discuss is RRRRRRRRRapture...
...It always causes fights!

No kidding. Good day to you, too!
(agree about REM, though)
