Bruce Springsteen

Am I missing something. I think he's boring. I bought a few of his albums in the 1970's and 1980's after hearing people say how good they were, but gave them away as they weren't interesting. During the drive home 2 days ago, a radio station was having Springsteen day, and played what they said was some of his best music. I tried to listen, but got bored to death. No dis-respect to his fans, but I just don't get it. Any other opinions? Cheers.

I'm not a fan of his as such, but he has done some brilliant music. And more stuff that is boring indeed.

If you see the Live '75-'85 3-cd box at a bargain price, buy it. That's the Boss at his best.

Yes, I think his earlier stuff is better.
My wife's a fan and we went to see him live in Sheffield, UK in 1983. The boredom factor figured for me then but she was elated. Still think Hungry Heart is a classic though.

Yup! Springsteen is a briliant live-performer, also his music works better live. That live-box is truly a gem.

Also the aqustic "Nebraska" is an outstanding effort. If those lyrics don't touch you, you're not human. emoticon

Yeah!

The only song I would like to add to the box is the solo performance of Born in the USA the Boss did in Helsinki 2003. He started the gig with it, came out alone, playing a dobro and singing, it was a real blues version: no chanting chorus, he just spoke the line once in the chorus. I got goosebumps of it, it was masterful.

I was in a Bruce tribute band three years ago and I really enjoyed revisiting the stuff, as 20 years ago I was a huge fan. I don't listen to his stuff all the time but I still enjoy it when I do. The Rising is a brilliant album. I prefer the more epic stuff like on Rising or Born to Run, as opposed to acoustic projects like Nebraska, Tom Joad and the new album, which I have yet to hear any of.

The aqustic version of Born In the USA på "Tracks" is truly great, suddenly it's a great song! emoticon

I have only seen BS once, it was in '93, and Oslo was tour closer. It was 3 1/2 hour of enrgic and joyful rock performance - never seen a more charismatic artist ever.

John, cool! emoticon Haven't heard "Rising" yet (like there's only room for one "Rising" in my collection emoticon )
Born To Run is great, I think Thunder Road is his best song ever!

Oh you've gotta get the Rising....out of 15 tracks 13 are totally brilliant and the album flows together really well. The songs are fantastic, as is the production and the musicianship.

A lass I used to know saw him in concert, and said it was one of the most boring events she'd ever been to.

I've never really got into him either. Just not interested enough.
