just checked a Free and Bad Company fan site and no mention of any death.

Former Free bassist Andy Fraser is alive. Despite strong rumours, and even what purported to be an official statement, he has now broken his silence and gone public to inform everyone that, while he is suffering from AIDS, nonetheless reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated.
