Strange Debuts
Can you think of any bands whose debut album sounds nothing like the band that they eventually became?
Just got the idea for the topic while listening to The Scorpions' debut album Lonesome Crow.
It's a far more chilled-out affair. Even with hints of psychedelia. Michael Schenker is busting a gut on it, but the other members seem quite content to go 'ooooh' and 'aaaaaah' a lot.
Great album though, but nothing like what the band would eventually become, with all that spandex and those hairy chests.
Guess Purple is another example. From pop-psych to heavy rock. You can hardly tell it's the same band.
Anymore examples?

Re: Strange Debuts
King Crimson would be a prime example for me. They never did another album like In The Court Of The Crimson King(well altough it´s follow up was a failed attempt to be a "SonOf" )They started out with a symphonic prog sound(okay they co-created it, but it soon became clichéed), but only the fifth album Lark´s Tongues In Aspic was the debut for the King Crimson as we know it today with it´s very unique and recognisable sound.

Re: Strange Debuts
Though the metamorphosis wasn't done from one album to the next, there's a pretty long step from "The piper at the gates of dawn", via "Ummagumma" to "Wish you were here".
My 2 cents on Pink FLoyd.
