Re: Parisian !@#$- Killer!!!
What happened to his voice between Born Again and Perfect Strangers? Go back a year or so, to the last years of "Gillan" the band. Following the Double Trouble tour in '81, Gillan was told to take it easy and consider throat surgery. He ignored the doctors (again) and recorded the Magic album. You can hear voice problems on the album, and he was told again to get the surgery. Instead, he went back out on tour to promote the LP and as a farewell to the fans. He thought Purple was getting back together, but it fell through again. Anyway, listen to the boots from the 1982 Magic tour. Gillan sounds horrible. He destroyed his voice, night after night. After the tour, he found out the DP thing was off. He was advised to get surgery again, which he ignored. He took a few months off and that's when the Sabbath thing happened. He recorded the album and then went out on tour. His voice only lasted a little while on the road. You can hear it fade from show to show. Listen to any of the available boots, from Stockholm to Reading, Paris to Worcester, Philadelphia to the last dates in Los Angeles. His voice disintegrates over the course of the tour. What does he do then? DP reunites and he goes right into the studio. PS is a pale shadow of what it could have, should have been. Then he goes right out on tour, for the 3rd straight year, and his voice is gone. It's never recovered and probably never will. Anytime the band takes a break, which is rare, he goes out on his own. He can't live without the applause, so he just stays out on the road forever. That's what happened to his voice.

Re: Parisian !@#$- Killer!!!
Fair enough metaljim
I was there for all you have said.
It was terrible during the magic tour
I'm glad I missed it but I have some vinyl boot's
and you are right.
I was at the Reading festival and I'm glad I got too see him in all his glory,I was right in front of him for
most of the set until the crowd got so out of hand
that I was smashed up against the side by Iommi.About the time they broke into Paranoid.
Crazy day's,I was only 18 at the time and a long long
way from home but it was worth it to forever have the
sight and sound of that great performance glued in detail to
my brain.
