posticon Cries for Help

How many of us in this section have taken the time to help out other DP collectors get started on their collection? There have been many. I myself have had requests and have either traded or completed a 2:1 to help out a fellow DP fan. But recently I have had a bad taste left in my mouth. Two people have contacted me over the past two months with requests for help. I have obliged and have yet to receive anything from them. After being told by both that they will complete the transaction, nothing has come to date. If you are going to request for help please follow the honest rules of trading and not spoil it for others. I do not want to trade this way anymore. Not that I am out the CD's but just that the request has come from the outside for help and then getting the shaft. I will have firm rules of trade from now on. You will send me your material or blanks before I start anything. As for the people whom I have traded with in the past, not a problem. Each one of you have shown respect of the trading rules and I do enjoy trading with all of you. I am a little busy right now doing some mixing but I will let all of you know when it is completed and then we can all enjoy the show! emoticon

Sad to hear that Worm.

I've traded with loads of people on here & the Glenn Hughes site, and have only experienced 1 minor problem in 2-3 years of serious trading.

I've also set up B&P deals on request, have trusted people enough that I've almost always fulfilled my end of the deal first, and have never had problems with it.

After having read your experiences I may start to be a bit more wary.

Is it worth setting up a Bad Traders list here, or is that just putting a negative slant on the whole thing?

I haven't done any trading in ages (must be over a year now) because of constantly moving back and forth between two countries so this is hardly the voice of experience talking but setting up a bad traders list will most likely bring the trolls out of the woodwork (as I recall it did on the old forums). You will also no doubt get plenty of people groaning and moaning because the person they're trading with has delayed his end of the deal for a week or so (which for me, at this level of trading, is fairly expectable). Then again, if there are people shafting traders on this forum and I was actively in the scene I would want to know!

Sorry to hear that Brian.I always like to fulfil my end of the trade as soon as the trade is agreed.I know that there can be delays between countries with the post(its just taken a month for the postcards I sent from Ibiza to reach the UK).I am very new to this and have had no problems at all so far,in fact people have been amazingly kind and helpful(yourself included Brian).Yes ,I think a bad trader list would be a great idea.

I don't know if a "bad trader" thread is needed. Some people maybe unfairly treated by others and then you get into a "he said, she said" argument and no one wins. I was just passing on my past experience and thought that others may learn from it. As I said, I have had a lot of great trades in the past and hope to keep it up. I am just going to be a lot more careful from now on.

For what it's worth, I agree with wormdp. It is never pleasant, in any area of life, if someone fails to keep their promises, but I have not come across that in my (admittedly limited) experience of exchanging discs or discs-for-blanks-in-return. I posted a 'cry for help' and good posters on the THS trusted me and helped me get started (You Know Who You Are!). I hope I've earned their trust in return, and now I've been able in a small way to carry on their generosity as I get someone else started and look to build a collection and trade more. There are many active and expert traders here whom I'm sure can keep track of who does and who does NOT live up to expectations, but putting names on the net (as last time) might only lead to recriminations.

A final thought - when I joined THS Purple Forums I was naive and completely ignorant about boots, about trading, in fact about anything other than the music I'd loved since I was 13 years old. Boots seemed like a 'secret society', rather than a wonderful aspect of getting a great big kick out of the rock'n'roll so many of us here can't get enough of. The net can be quite an intimidating place for anyone 'not in the know' or unaware of the 'rules' or etiquette of the unknown. Some abuse it, some use it to create a community where they feel at home, not just another 'fun' website. This forum has a great 'feel' to it - perhaps because real fans took the initiative when (other great fans on) THS were left in the lurch by big business emoticon I hope it continues, in all areas; and if I've got something you're after (unlikely, but you never know...) I'll do my best to help.

I would just like to say that one of the two "bad" trades I have had has shown up!! It only took 2 months to get the shows to me and he had them with 10 days of asking for them. As I stated before, I only put this thread up to point out to other kind souls out there that you should beware of the person asking for help. emoticon

I just received three CD's from someone in Ontario Canada. I don't remember anyone mentioning they were going to send these to me or any talk of a trade. If we did talk, it must have been a long time ago.I have a return address but don't recognize the name. The CD's are Rainbows 10 best and Deep Purples 10 best along with Pink Floyd. They are Karoake for guitar. If whoever sent these is reading this, please respond to me because I need to thank you or, if it was a trade, get it out to you, whatever it was.
