Mk 4 On You Tube
Just found this rare footage of Mk4 doing a rather ragged version of Highway Star on You Tube.
"Big Fat Knockers and Everything" indeed!!

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
The solo is awful, just plain awful. Wish I didnt have to say that but there it is. The rest of the band hold it together I thought. Bolin seemed to have a habit of wandering around the stage as if he was never quite sure where or what he was doing. You wouldnt say he commanded the audience. There is some good footage elsewhere of 'Love Child' and again the band sounds great but Bolin himself is just another guy on stage.
A great talent on a one-way ticket. Sad, sad, sad.

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
When Mark IV did 'Highway Star', they raped it. Goes for Coverdale too. And it's also clear that Tommy was totally uninterested to do 'Smoke On The Water'. I mean: he immediately started the riff, no fooling around first, hence no anticipation in the audience. And hey, he played the riff pretty bad too.
BTW: on 'Foxbat' Tommy didn't even bother trying the famous 'Highway Star' solo...

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
Well that is the first footage that i have ever seen that is more than
30 secs long of this line-up, and going by the comments i was not
expecting much, but i was more impressed than others seem to be.
It must be the collective thing with me, and the weak link
in this line-up was not Tommy for me.

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
It was released as VHS, for a short time, then it was pulled. It's not rare at all, it's just not commercially available anymore. (I think the title was Rising Over Japan, or something like that. It's ages ago I watched it.
If you cared to read the credits, you'd have known it was produced by Martin Birch, and was recorded in the Budokan in Tokyo December 1975, and the audio has been released as Last Concert in Japan.

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
Oh my God, that was awful!!! Coverdale sings like he's not interested- at all, Hughes is high on everything and Bolin is....just there, wondering what he is doing there.
Paice and Lord tried, but they were on a lost course.

Re: Mk 4 On You Tube
Ages and ages and ages ago this footage was shown on German television, I remember.
(and despite everything, I think Glenn looks the coolest anyone could look in 1975...)
