Re: The Deep Purple 72/73 DVD

I love the way they end SOTW in the Hosfra show: first bluesy licks from RB and Lordy, then the latter goes higher, higher... watch Glover's face as JL hits the ascending chords!

Sadly, a bit edited. But check out the commentaries, they're great stuff!

I am way, way, way out of touch. Is this DVD out in the USA yet, in format that lets us Yanks play it? Ditto Cal Jam?

It's sickening to me, the way the REST of the Hofstra show "disappeared". It looks to me as if the Hofstra show was one of their absolute best. Blackmore was fantastic, and I personally have NEVER heard or seen Gillan better.

Amen

Maybe the interesting expressions Gillan made during the Hofstra performance WERE a result of the inner-band squabblery (err...I guess the latter isn't really a word!). All I know is, if he's going to sing as brilliantly as he did that night, I can't help but wish he'd ALWAYS have that kind of friction. I was mightily impressed by Gillan that performance.

Based upon such a performance, I tip my hat to MrEd when he states that Gillan was the best, ever. I never heard him better, except perhaps on the unbelievable renditions of CoT on Powerhouse and Live in Stockholm.

Please help me see better! PM me with a trade list....

I have the Wring the Neck tape, and if you are implying there are better videos of Gillan's singing, then add my copy of the badly-in-need-of-a-cough-drop Paris '85 show to stuff I've seen, along with Hofstra and Copenhagen.

 ARE there better videos?
