Given Gillan's long history of drunk driving and heavy drinking on and off stage, I think I asked a legitimate question.
Yes, you did, but there is allways someone who's trying to make that question sound stupid and very much out of place!

Are you suggesting you know for a fact exactly what alcahol he drinks...and it's of the clear nature...really,can't imagine a 60 year old man, guzzeling pure unmixed alcahol at concerts...it's just unrealistic, and overblown theoretical nonsense.
Myself,I drink alcahol maybe once or twice a month...beer only, and have no reason to try and justify Gillans habits...it just has nothing to do with anything but microscopic points of taste, and attacking the artist for self entertainment, most likely because you don't know enough else to contribute anything positive and informative.

Wrong!
I criticise him because we, the fans, pay a lot of money for their records and we spend a lot of money to see them in concert, and if a couple of habits of his means that he can't deliver what we are paying to see and hear, we have the right to say what we mean about it.
If I was a doctor and was going to do some surgery on you, would you defend me so blindly if I were (smoking and) drinking, even if it was in my spare time? Would you trust me to deliver? Would you pay me a lot of money to cut you up if you didn't know if I was sober or not?
I base my opinion on what Gillan has said in interviews in later years, and on the fact that his voice is going downhill very fast these days. He can't deliver during concerts, and from what I've seen here on the forum he even has big troubles with the new numbers from ROTD. I don't blame it just on his age. IMO there has to be some other reasons to, and when I know he is smoking when drinking I guess that he do both. A serious singer should not drink or smoke at all!!!

Re: Rapture Live
For one,I clearly[ed} wasn't addressing you in particular....and just how much money you've spent can't possibly be anywhere near what I have, and it doesn't have that effect one me,why don't you give us an example of the magnitude of your purchases...start with the size of your collection, and the tell us how many shows you've travelled and paid to see over the years, then maybe, just maybe, your take on the subject just might interest me for piece of mind and then, having backed your statements...maybe we could find some common ground, but no since carrying on about things without any filling.
About the last pragraph of your post....the word "SHOULD" is nothing but your opinion,so saying "to me" might have a better more positive feedback...and while your at it,take a better look into what he's doing these days in the drinking/smoking dept, plenty of reports on the subject for you to read here, you're off the mark a tad.
Unless you're speaking about the past of course, but then why do that,it has nothing to do with how he conducts himself in the present.

I've been to one show, I have the In Rock album, and I've spent a lot on money on a lot of things! Does that answer your question?

Gillan's recent drunk driving conviction seems to suggest that the present isn't as rosy as you're trying to paint it when his conduct is concerned. But in your mind it's irrelevant, isn't it?

Well,I'm sorry that as you're a newer member of these forums that I have to inform you that I've been in a drunk driving support group with my wife for years...due to a tragedy involving her sister that we both witnessed.
But this has nothing to do with how I feel about Gillans incident,I find it to be a very big wake up call for him,and in his book he mentioned something about knowing that authorites have gone to the length of letting his d/d go too far,and that he supposes he'll get a ticket sooner or later...
However I don't see the point in persicuting anyone for it,cause the laws for alcahol are the biggest who to blame department, and you have to understand that in order to move on with your feelings about it.
Not irrelevant, just that I happen to be educated on the subject, and don't see any reason to be a hypocrite by judging his singing or personal life about it,I hope he learns from it though, and I try to be a positive human being about ANYONE,including public figures.
Life is one big lesson.

I've already stated this before, but here I go again.
During the Bananas-tour I've been backstage twice (a festival as headliner and a show in Germany).
On both occasions I met Gillan before he went on stage and on both he was drinking mineral water.
During the shows he picked up several times a bottle of the same mineral water.
After the show I saw him with a glass of wine. But on all occasions I haven't seen him smoking.
All I can tell are only possitive things.
And that has nothing to do with DP being my favourite band.
What makes you so sure it was mineral water?
There were several bottles in some kind of fridge and my son was handed one also. And for sure I know that this bottle was mineral water.

As demanded(not merely requested) by them for backstage use.
