Prove to me that he now drinks before going on stage...and forget about the past.

So what, you want a young singer...listen to one...
Wearing make up and wigs do terrible things for your sexual confidence as well. emoticon
(not to mention womens undergarments)

(pic not availible due to a lack of computer skills,or someone would say...)

I know...lets get Candice to sing HWYStar...that'll bring things into perspective, now won't it?
Or better yet, shut up and quit trying to convince people that Ritchie Blackmore is all to do with every last subject in these forums. emoticon

Quit knockin the small stuff, and come up with something that proves overall lacking in "taste" across the board, beyond your opinion.(not possible of course)

I don't think you dislike Gillan for one nano second you profess to...you just can't help backing every dieing thought of Ritchies,as if his genious doesn't stop at his talent for guitar playing or something.
Keep thinking like the man,and soon you will have cobwebbs in your castle. emoticon

It doesn't matter. The damage is done and it's evident in his singing.

It may not sound pretty, but Gillan sounds pretty bad at it himself and i don't think it could sound any worse, but it sure would be a pretty sight. A hell of a lot prettier than ole Pumkin Head exploding all over his white psycho pj's.

I thought this was about Ole Pumkin Head. Not once did I mention Blackmore. I think it is you who can't get him out of your head. Somehow you manage to get Blackmore into a conversation about Gillan and DP's latest disaster.

Actually, if you want to call Gillans terrible voice and overindulgence creating a complete lack of professionalism and lack of self control "small stuff", fair enough. But if he were in the real world, with a real job and indulged with his lack professionalism he would have gotten the sack for his lack of performance a long time ago. Let him explain to the unemployment office and future prospective employers why he was sacked for "small stuff".

He was once one of my heros and it's taken a long time, just like any addictive habit, to kick it. But it takes many years of being sick and tired of something before one can say he's had enough. It's not that I dislike him, it's that I feel the need to critisize him in the hopes that he takes something from a real, longtime fan to heart.

There you go again bringing Blackmore into a thread where he really doesn't need to be. I'm beginning to think you are as obsessed with Blackmore as Gillan seems to be. This thread is about Gillans vocals on the live set of rapture of the Deep. Why bring Blackmore into the fold. Did he have something to do with Gillans subpar performance that everyone here is speaking about? I haven't heard any of the recordings, so I can't comment on any of them. I really have no desire to hear them either which is why my 1st post on this subject just about said it all for me (I said I don't even have to say anything here) and to note, their is no mention of Blackmore at all. The only thing I did in my previous post was give reason, backed up scientifically, for Gillans shortcomings as a vocalist these days.

The problem I have is obvious...every word about Gillan from you is completely Blackmore sided, and I don't have to explain that about you...nice try with the oblivian though, some new readers just might be engaged... emoticon

This buisness about employment...hhhmmm just how long ago do you think his fat Swiss bank account would have reflected such nonsense?

Before or after his so called decline in vocal talent?????
(either way,you haven't a clue...but that was a nice funny)

I had formed my own opinion about him just after the PS tour, while Blackmore was still singing his praises in KERRANG.

He would not have a Swiss bank account were it not for the blind faith following of the likes of you. He would be sitting on the High Street Que.

Yeah, RB was praising IG well into 1985 and I don't think it was just PR talk.

Re: Rapture Live

Get real Brian, the bulk of it was made when he was still selling current records, before TBRO...since then, they've had to keep the train running to collect the ducketts.

And as far as I can read, that was when you still enjoyed him...ya know that album he nearly singlehandedly influenced THOBL.

(please don't make me have to spell out his massive stylings on that album,to the tune of most of it,even the music, reflecting his large amount of input on the album where Ritchie dropped the ball)

(THOBL sold 950,000 copies in the U.S.)

(TBRO...sold a whopping??? emoticon)

Re: Rapture Live

I have no idea how much Gillan drinks these days , I guess the way he talks about it indicates that he drinks far less than a few years back. He also says that he only smokes a few every day these days. Guess what ? Quitting smoking can actually ruin a singer ! Im a singer myself and have experienced that it can change the voice in a dramatic way....Quite a few singers actually had to start smoking again , because they sounded too different....Give the guy a break , he is 60 years old , so off course there will be better shows than others !
I think the 3 or 4 nights in a row has a lot to do with it , too....
I have been to 2 shows this year , and the band sounded excellent both times , incl. Gillan

I agree with this...whats not broken can't always need fixing. emoticon

But really now...I'm pretty sure thats why singers don't get their crooked teeth fixed once they have the money as well,it could completely take away from what is appealing about their voice, period.
(thats why they don't do such risky things)

I don't smoke, nor do I advocate it...I don't sing either, but I don't judge a singer simply on the pretense that they smoke and or drink, just as I don't judge the former guitar players ability level by his womens clothes...
What is appalling to one, might not be to the other...I don't see him drink or smoke, but I do see the former guitar player dressed like his wife tells him...does it effect his playing, probably not...does it appeal to me,definetly not.

Just because I'm not thrilled with whatever the band may have in store with this tour, doesn't mean they've lost it all, plenty of people haven't travelled the world to see them like I have, and they will be able to judge Purple on their own...I could care less if I ever see them again, unless they do happen to surprise me with something attractive enough about it to change my mind, just as they've managed to do since 1994...so I'm not holding my breath, but I am curious. emoticon

Notice how one person can take me on another road without even trying... emoticon

If I see him...how on earth can I not tie his motives to you know who??? emoticon

Re: Rapture Live

I've already stated this before, but here I go again.

During the Bananas-tour I've been backstage twice (a festival as headliner and a show in Germany).
On both occasions I met Gillan before he went on stage and on both he was drinking mineral water.
During the shows he picked up several times a bottle of the same mineral water.
After the show I saw him with a glass of wine. But on all occasions I haven't seen him smoking.
All I can tell are only possitive things.
And that has nothing to do with DP being my favourite band.
