They have already done that once in the bands career, haven't they? Or at least Paicey has...

I heard Gillan sing ROTD live on German TV a few weeks ago, and his voice was fine.
Was that live? The tv show I saw was playpack.

Re: Rapture Live
They did a show on German TV where they played Rapture live, but Ian didn't sound good, usually he sounds much better...

Re: Rapture Live
Just downloaded it! Thanks Aradel for the link, I was'nt aware of that site.
Rapture did'nt sound very good there, no. Gillan has troubles even with the highest notes in that song, and they are not very high!

Re: Rapture Live
I hope that's just an 'off' day or so. I think particularly KTG would work as an excellent live song if Gillan's vocals are in good shape. It is probably the song I want to hear live most from ROTD.

It's not grasping at straws at all. Everyone knows what alcohol does. If you've ever used isopropyl alcohol on anything you can see how quickly it dries up. Well, drinking alcohol has the same effect on everything it passes through inside the body, including the vocal cords. It dries them up. Of course cigarettes diminish ones lung capacity, and in order to speak, breath or sing, you need lung capacity. Cigarettes create a muddy , flemm filled mess within ones lungs and the nicotine attaches itslef to the inner walls of the lungs, thereby diminishing the lungs capacities to work to thier full extent.
The combination of these effects can clearly be heard when listening to Gillans voice change from his 70's recordings to present day. Just listen to what should be an easy song for him to sing like SOTW and compare his sonic capabilities between the two eras and you can hear the struggles with his present day versions and tell how much his voice has changed. It's easy to tell that he cannot sing from his lungs anymore and is singing from dried up vocal cords. Hence the beet red Pumkin Head of today when he's coughing, cathhaaaarggghhing through Highway Star.
The only way the sad excuse of too much touring can be validated is by his excessive smoking and drinking when not under the watchful eye of his wife. Just look at his wardrobe and you can see that he needs his wife to reel him back under control when touring.
