Rapture Live
I've just heard the three songs from Rapture played in Rio and... does anybody else have the feeling that Gillan sings them terrible...? Wrong Man seems to be to high for him, as well as the chorus in Rapture Of The Deep. In Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye he changes the melody...
It's not that I think that "Gillan has ended" (some of the people on this forum do). He was singing Bananas songs great. So what's wrong now?
And I also heard Wrong Man from Dusseldorf... It's even worse...

Re: Rapture Live
Haven't heard anything from Rapture live yet. "Wrong Man" is pretty high pitched, but it's a bit strange if they cannot play it in the right tune to fit Gillans voice...

Re: Rapture Live
He struggles a lot throughout the whole song IMO.

It's no secret that Gillan's voice isn't what it used to be just a few years back. If the man had just a little brain left he would stop smoking and drinking, and he would practise his voice more often. Just like Paice, he never practise (according to himself) and that shines through for the both of them during their concerts. Lazy buggers!
Around the time of the Toolbox Tour Gillan said at a pressconference here in Norway that he had stopped smoking and drinking, and that affected his voice very positively.
I can't understand why he can't do that again so he can go out of this business in a few years time with a shred of dignity and credibility.
In my mind Gillan acts the part of a star and a living legend these days (during interviews and TV shows), but as soon as he opens his mouth to sing you just feel embarrased on his behalf.
Get your act together, Gillan! And while your at it: Wake up Paice- he's sleeping at the job!

Re: Rapture Live
Would you stop smoking and drinking just because someone else think you should... I wouldn't and I do both.

If it affected my job so much that I couldn't do it properly and I wasn't giving 100% and my customers didn't get what they were paying for- yes, I certainly would!

Got any sound files? It would be really interesting to hear!
I was actually quite impressed with Gillans singing on the Bananas tour - compared to what I've heard from him on some other tours/gigs.. My impression is that he has been singing well (for his age and capability) the last few years.
Hope the Rapture tour will not be a big drop in starndard from Gillan - or the band. Let's hope they quite BEFORE it's too late.. And not WHEN it's too late and its all just painfull and embarrasing..! They should not be pushing it.

Re: Rapture Live
I heard Gillan sing ROTD live on German TV a few weeks ago, and his voice was fine.

Re: Rapture Live
Too much touring,period...there is nothing else to blame.
Personally I don't see Rapture being all that spectacular unless they really rework the songs to fit the stage...otherwise it could suck pretty bad.
The Rio set is rather lame imo...
