SetList 2006 tour

OK we (mostly) all love purple here, but my only gripe is the setlists. it seems the most intersting songs don't get played or get dropped quick. i have seen them play stuff like rat bat blue and i'm alone and they were great, so why drop them?
so what stuff would you like to see on the 2006 tour?
this is what i would like a taste of...

flight of the rat (opener)
rat bat blue
silver tongue
into the fire
mitzi dupree
under the gun
ramshackle man
doing it tonight
bad attitude
sun goes down

come on Purple treat each tour like its your last. shake it up stop playing safe. the fans have followed you for years, give us what we want, PLEASE.
what would other people like to hear?

Re: SetList 2006 tour

Isn't it true that the usa dates this year are in smaller venues than last years jaunt.
Perhaps the promotors have an ever diminishing expectation of the bands ability
to pull in the casual "rock" fan interested in a "all the hits" type package.
If so, will that force the band to change their outlook and cater for the longer standing
type fan who have their own idea of what they would like the band to perform, to keep
them turning up and paying the money.

It is a difficult one, as listening to some of the posts on here, it would seem
as though it is the long term, hard core fans that have given up on going to see
the band "live".

Others , like myself, will go no matter what set-list the band deems suitable to
entertain us, but i can understand that people will have already made their minds up
as to what a 2006 set list will consist of, and they may well be right.

Tours to promote a new album are things of the past now, as bands just seem to tour on a
"heres our greatest hits" re-re-re-re-release basis or "heres a covers album that we dont
do as well as the original version". So that leaves the new album as a no-go doesn't it
?.
After all, if the album sales are not reflected by the concert going public as
indicated by comments made by Ian Gillan about ))), then what is the point of a new album?.
It will keep hard core fans happy/unhappy depending on your thoughts as to line-ups and
musical direction, but somewhere along the line the album has been done for their own satisfaction
and there has to be a point where a band stands up and says
" this is where we are at today, and this is what we are proud of, and this is what we will present
for your listening and visual pleasure".

I don't know how much input the record company has into stage shows, but will the
movement of label have an effect on the shows?.

Of course the best scenario will be to drop the current trend of co-headline tours and to
play all night, but that will not happen, i fear it is too late in their lives for that idea.

So i will take what is offered, whatever that may be, and be glad that i am still
being offered something, but it will not stop me wishing will it!

Some great ideas for a set list chaps but could i add sifls to the list.
It just relly hits the spot for me.

Re: SetList 2006 tour

I think what tamadam wrote is true. Promoters have diminished expectations of the band. At least here in Cleveland. They will play at the HOB and be sharing the bill with Mountain. When I look at the web page for HOB it tells me it's gonna cost me $45 for a cheap ticket plus all the Ticketmaster prices. It gives me 3 audio links to DP music. Hush, Smoke, WFT.
Now I also saw that UFO is coming about a month after DP and the price is less, but the audio links are for new songs.
to this my first thought was. Oh they are still a fresh vibrant band. The last cd I have from them is Walk On Water. I should look into some newer music from them.
I guess my frustration is doubled cause I continue to tell my friends that DP has something new to offer. Yet you don't hear it on the radio, they won't play it in concert, can rarely find it in a store. My friends tell me it must be crap if they won't even promote it themselves.
Ok, my rant is over.... for now

Re: SetList 2006 tour

I think most of 'us' would like to hear an alternate set list. I also think the chances are getting increasingly remote.

This is sad since it has to reflect their lack of confidence in the Morse era material, which is largely unfounded. There are plenty of tracks from _|_ that are proven live fav's not to mention some we have not heard, Castle...... & Loosen My Strings for example. /-\ may have been a bit of a flop but at least 69 and Seventh Heaven worked live. We also have tracks from )))'s and shortly a fourth Morse era release. These SHOULD form the core of the set. For variety we have THOBL, PS, TBRO for a couple of tunes they could easily include. If they have to play the classics limit the to 2 or three per show and vary them on a nightly basis. I realy don't see what they have to lose by doing this, as I still think they would be able to our on the back of this as they can still deliver live when they choose.

Sadly I think this about as likelyas France ratifying the EU constituion. Whether they have outside interference in their set list construction by record company or promotoer I don't know. It could also be that they have lost the will/guts to push the new material, or they secretly prefer the sure fire income generator that they beleive the current 'greatest hits' packages offer.

Whatever, since Morse joined the sets have gone from great through a steady decline, infact since 2002 they have been postivley sterile. Nothing from _|_ or /-\ and only a few survivors from ))) and you don't need to be a clairvoyant to fill in the rest.

Sad, as there are some great suggestions here, but I would be amazed if they did anything radical in this regard, pleases but amazed.
