My Stats

I´ve seen Deep Purple 5 times and this is the songs I´ve seen them perform and how many times:

Hush 4
Speed King 3
Bloodsucker 1
Black Night 4
Fireball 1
Fools 1
No One Came 1
Strange Kind Of Woman 3
Woman From Tokyo 4
Highway Star 5
Pictures Of Home 1
Smoke On The Water 5
Lazy 4
Space Truckin´ 3
When A Blind Man Cries 2
Knocking At Your Backdoor 3
Perfect Strangers 5
Ted The Mechanic 3
Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming 1
Seventh Heaven 1
Watching The Sky 1
´69 1
The Well Dressed Guitar 4
House Of Pain 1
Silver Tongue 2
I Got Your Number 2
Doing It Tonight 1
Contact Lost 2

Interesting to note there are only 3 songs I´ve seen on all of the gigs and these are Highway Star, Smoke On The Water and Perfect Strangers, I take it that since the reunion they are the only songs to be performed at every gig and never to be dropped.

Though to be fair Black Night has only been dropped for a few gigs in 1999 and I was at one of those and I guess except that, this one also comes close as one of the songs they HAVE to play.

But strictly seen I think there has been SOTW, HS and PS on every gig since the reunion(as Turner also did them all three). Additionally Smoke and Highway Star had been done on every gig by MK III and MK IV too and as Highway Star was introduced in the set long before Smoke it does make:

Highway Star, the single most played Deep Purple song on gigs ever, if they don´t play that one something´s got to be seriously wrong.

Then came Smoke and of course that one has to be there too. Always.

And finally Perfect Strangers is the single reunion song that has a save place in the set.

The other songs that are performed on a more or less regular base are:

Black Night, Lazy, Woman From Tokyo and Hush.

Once also often done now not so often anymore:

Knocking At Your Backdoor, Strange Kind Of Woman, Space Truckin´ and Speed King.

At least that´s the experience I made in the last few years.

Remember Paris 1987? Wasn´t that the show where a lonely banjo player stood on stage bashing out just a few chords of SOTW only to realize that none of the others reappear on stage for the final encore???

Wasn´t it the other way round?

I mean a normal show, that wasn´t broken up or the encore was left off due to unforseen circumstances. I bet there never was one since gigs at the Rainbow in London in late june 1972.

I was at a show in 1987 I believe. Maybe a year or so earlier. They played two nights at the Richfield colliseum and I was at the 2nd night. They did not play SOTW.

Interesting, so there were regular shows after 1972 were they decided in a pure "let´s drop a must-song" mood that they won´t play it, and the rest was a very normal show?

Was it on more than one occasion, and when where etc?

My non-SOTW experience was at the Stockholm show on the Slaves & Masters tour. I think the show ended with Black Night.

JLT was kind of drunk. Burn was a killer opener though, as always.

I've only been able to see Mk8 twice. Here's the breakdown of songs played...

Silver Tongue 2
Woman From Tokyo 2
I Got Your Number 2
Strange Kind of Woman 2
Bananas 2
Knocking At Your Back Door 2
Contact Lost 2
The Well Dressed Guitar 2
House of Pain 1
Perfect Strangers 2
Highway Star 2
Maybe I’m A Leo 1
Pictures of Home 1
Never Before 1
When A Blind Man Cries 1
Space Truckin’ 2
Lazy 1
Smoke on the Water 2

Speed King 2
Hush 2

As you can see..Not much change in setlist. But seeing House Of Pain and Never Before was great!
