DP lead singers

I know all the lead singers DP had; David Coverdale, Rod Evans, Joe Lynn Turner and Ian Gillan. But I have two questions:

1. Who is, in your opinion, the best one?
2. Can you mention one song Coverdale, Evans and Turner have sung? I can´t hear the differences in some songs, and I want to know who I´m listening to emoticon

Re: DP lead singers

The best singer DP ever had was Ian Gillan. Back in the early 70s, he was untouchable.

Best singer nowadays though, in my opinion, is Glenn Hughes, who, kind of, sang lead vocals for Purple.

Coverdale is the bluesy singer on tracks like Mistreated, Burn and Stormbringer. He'll steal your girl as soon as your back is turned.

Rod Evans is the psychedelic crooner on Hush, Mandrake Root and Why Didn't Rosemary. Tom Jones on acid.

Turner is the geezer on tracks like Cut Runs Deep, Truth Hurts and Love Conquers All. Only made one album with them. 80s soft rock. He'll steal your hairspray when you're not looking.

Glenn Hughes is the bloke who was often the anti-thesis to harmony, when singing alongside David Coverdale. He sang lead on tracks like Holy Man and Getting Tighter. His voice is the soul to Coverdale's blues and you can hear him sing with David on tracks like Sail Away, Burn, and Love Don't Mean A Thing. Drives an ice-cream van in his spare time.

You start to serve,
the downward curve,
that catches up your fears.
Each thing you do,
comes home to you,
and pounds inside your ears.

1) Ian Gillan.

2) I'm not sure I completely understand exactly what your question is...

1. Ian Gillan, followed by David Coverdale
2. Mistreated; Emmaretta; King of Dreams

I think you'll find they all have quite distinct sounds; unless MrEd45 is listening, of course; in which case they probably all sound alike! emoticon

Phil, if I ever opine that Gillan, Coverdale or Evans sound like JLT - or any of the other FacelessGenericsoundingGIJoe/BarbieDoll ProductionLine vocalists we've discussed before - don't even wait for the truck that's to transport me to the glue factory to show up...just shoot me behind an ear with a high calibre shooting implement and call it a day. emoticon

The best singer is of course Joe Lynn Turner. Rod Evans and Glenn Hughes are great as well. Gillan used to be good.
