Re: Legal Purple Questions

Going by what we've already discussed about voluntary departures from the band, and the band not being officially dissolved as a recording/performing entity,on the surface my answer to:

Who will deserve the name?

a) Blackmore+Gillan+Glover+Lord+Paice in a new reunion tour?
b) Current DP?
 would have to be b).

Of course, this could all be 100% wrong on my part. emoticon

I actually disagreeemoticon unless the current DP becomes more popular than todays DP. In this case I believe that the fact that the originating nucleus is there, they will win.

What do you think? If the Mk3 line-up reunited (with different drummer, no matter who) - Coverdale/Hughes/Blackmore/Lord - do you think media and the press would be more interested in it than in Mk8? I think they would.

Mk3 has a much more commercial appeal - especially Coverdale as a frontman, and Blackmore as an extravagant, yet genius guitar legend. Add Lord - the keyboard Maestro and the aggresive bass playing from Hughes, not to mention the funky feel.

Wow, that would be sth I'd love to hear emoticon

Not in my court they wouldn't. emoticon All of which is likely an excellent reason why I've never been offered a judgeship. emoticon

It wouldn´t make a change. Media wise DP is uninterresting. There will be a little side-note, with the conclusion:maybe they will rock again. The time is over I believe.

I don´t think they have anymore appeal than today´s Whitesnake/DP/BN/Dio fans, who mostly are the same people.

Well, I can't agree with you, MrSnip. Remember the fuzz made around the Burn 30th Anniv. edition by CRock? Articles, interviews, and a full page review praising the album. Not to mention that it was later chosen as a No1 remater of 2004!

Plus, take a good look on how much better Coverdale is treated by CR and other magazines. They do like him. He looks like a true rock legend, and he acts like a legend - it doesn't matter if his voice is still good. He is a true rock star. There were large features in the press about at the time of the Restless Heart and Into the Light premieres and last year about the reunion of the snake. He was even featured on teh cover. Now, that's sth Mk8 can only imagine about.

Lord's Beyond the Notes album got better reviews than Bananas and Hughes' Soul Mover was scored even better!

I think they could attract quite a big audience and media attention.

One morning the name "Deep Purple" appeared and it's been acknowledged that it was in Blackmore's handwriting.

Yes - Ritchie suggested the name referring to that "Deep Purple" song recorded by Nino Tempo & April Stevens which was a favourite of Ritchie's grandmother.

Whether that has any relevance concerning the question about who is allowed to give the Name "DP" to his band - I don't know.

Nope, I don't know either - that's why I was careful to be speaking in theory only.

Re: Legal Purple Questions

I know for fact (from a trusty Rumour starting monger) that if Ritchie Blackmore wants to put a band together with former American Idols and Carrie Underwood and wants to call it Deep Purple, then the current Tribute band that falsly goes under the Deep Purple banner would have to change thier name to the "The Widdlin, Wibblin Travelin Woobedas Featuring The Songs Of Ritchie Blackmore". I have asked future Superior Court Senior Judge and Magistrate and Future Barrister of Londons south side Brian Stephen about the legalities and he has informed me that Blackmore would be 100% correct and will have no problem getting members of the House, Congress and George W Bush to pass the legislation. Prince Charles is also said to be in cohoots with the Bush Admin on this one and Tony Blair is willing to with-hold more troops from entering Iraq in case of an uprising from a few people who believe that smiling is more important that rockin. Even if it is vetoed by a certain Psycho ward, pajama wearin screecher and his Smiling sidekick.
