Perfect DP Tribute Album

I was looking at the new Ritchie Blackmore tribute album that someone posted a link for and it struck me; with the exception of a few I'd never really heard of any of the acts on it.

In fact the only truely excellent tribute album I can think of is The Ramones one, whether you like them or not (I'm not really a fan) there are lots of well known good bands on it: U2, RHCP, John Frusciante, Metallica, etc.

So why can't there be a tribute album to DP say full of great acts they have influenced?

If you made a perfect DP tribute album who'd be on it doing what??

My suggestions are:

Iron Maiden - Speed King (interesting possibly; using 3 guitars instead of keys)

Metallica - Mistreated (Kirk played the riff amazingly on the Black Album tour)

Dream Theater - Child In Time (I can't think of anyone else fit to play it)

Van Halen - Burn (EVH playing that might be sehr kool)

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Sail Away (definitely a Mk 3 song for them and Frusciante and Smith have played this with Hughes to great effect)

Queensryche - Knocking At Your Back Door (I think Geoff Tate could make this sound quite threatening)

Voivod - Space Truckin' (fits in nicely with their Sci-Fi themes)

Velvet Revolver - Lazy (Slash on this I can see working)

The Darkness - Hush (bit of a pop band doing DP'smost poppy song)

Deep Purple:
"Doing their Thing".

Honestly I loathe tributes. Ok for a teenage band, before they start to write themselves.

I don't get them either.

I do get bands that play covers, but not tribute bands. And I've yet to hear a tribute album that I would listen to more than once.

I like tribute albums (and one of the reasons is because it makes you see the original in a different light) Making a successful cover is harder than it sounds.

However, I can't see why "big" names would do it any better than the "unknown" acts...(except that it would probably get more publicity)

Some of the mentioned bands have played Purple material before and I'm not really convinced....

Metallica has already covered Mistreated.
I have a copy of it in my library.

They open with the Smoke riff and stop and ask the audience if they know Deep Purple. Then they say they are going to give them a DP song and break in to Mistreated. It is 3:45 long.

They had to do the Smoke riff first, otherwise the audience would have answered "NO!" emoticon

Yeah I have that boot. Kirk and Lars also do it on the Live Sh*t Binge And Perge DVD and they don't do the Smoke riff.

Don't worry I think that their version may well be better! I really like their version with Bruce Dickinson too.
