What's up with people wanting a "classy" sounding Purple?
When I want to "rock out", I listen to Purple. And when I listen to Purple, I ain't looking for class, I want some face-melting rock!

Could you make yourself a bit clearer?

Some people probably have an idea that Purple should "act their age". Rock and roll is a young man's game. People tend to snicker when they hear 50+ year old men singing about women and fast cars and rebellion.
Not me though. Just some people.

Sorry it took me so long! I just meant that my favorite Purple stuff, from FOTR, to Space Truckin' and Mary Long, to some the the newer stuff, isn't "classy". It's raunchy and loud

Yep, and that's why it's terribly conventional and tiring - listening only to a lot of noizz. Loud and powerful r n'r ain't bad, but not when you're almost 60. If you still play like that at that age, it means you have stopped, you don't make any progress anymore and that's bad. With Purpendicular they proved the are (were) making progress and thei're music got more mature, more classy, simply more intelligent.

Right on!
Purple are at their best when they take rock to it's limits. Straight forward songs with the !@#$ played out of 'em.
Besides, how much "class" can there be when, regardless of the style being played, it's blasting off the stage through 1000 watt stacks?
Rock is about pushing the limits, having fun, and not giving a !@#$ what anyone thinks.

Well, chaps, it's of course your sacred right to have an opinion like that and nobody should argue with that. However, it's not what I think. I got nothing against straightforward rock but they have already done it, dozens of times, it's time to move on, if they don't want to become a part of a third-rate, fourth-league, ex-legendary, former dino-heavy metal pioneers like Uriah Heep, Nazareth etc. Purple profile always used to be higher, but their standards were higher as well, until early 2000s. Sorry, ffolks, they used to kick ass, but long time ago.

I don't think we're that far apart, actually. I have no desire to Purple try to recreate their old songs. Let's face it, they've been doing that for a while now. But I just wish they'd get their sense of adventure, and intensity back for the next CD.
They have progressed over the years, and I like that very much. But I think they could be a bit more bold. New sounds, but played with intensity, and less slick production.
That being said, Blackmore leaving when he did was very good for the band, musically. TBRO had a few good songs, but it was too much "Listen to us, we're Deep Purple", and not enough "!@#$ you, we're Deep Purple"...lol...if that makes any sense

Re: What's up with people wanting a "classy" sounding Purple?
Well, that sounds much more convincing to me and I might agree with you actually almost entirely, if we put it like that.
I'd rather if they paid more attention to the overall sounding and arrangements, so I guess I don't agree with you on that matter. However, I'd of course love them to be: "**** you, we're Deep Purple". Still, I think it belongs to young people. Not that I think older bands shouldn't be any like that BUT when you're a young band, just taking off, you can risk everything and it's much easier because you've got nothing to loose. Nowaydays, Deep Purple, as a trademark means sth (many diff things for many people and you can't simply record... Razzzle Dazzzzle :P
