New Studio Recording
I know it's a well-flogged horse, but as far as the "sound" of the next one, I'm really hoping for the organ to return to it's rightful place in the mix.
The last time the hammond was on par with the geetar was on WDWTWA. Enough already! Bring back that balance!!

Re: New Studio Recording
Indeed!!! On Bananas you can barely hear the organ and it's hard to belive that it's a lead instrument. After all, what is it that separates Purple from other bands if not the organ??

Ah well there are lots of other bands that have dominant organ too, so it can´t be the organ...

I should of course have written hardrock bands. You got to admit that there aren't alot of heavyrock bands nowadays that has a organ.

A) LOL...not that there's anything wrong with well-flogged horses...
B) Yeah, I can see that. I'm not necessarily looking for more organ solos than guitar solos, but I love that raunchy sound Lordy had going on that record.
a) That all depends on what precisely was flogged and who the flogger was.
b) Yup, that was what I meant by 'center stage'. Nearly all the songs, which coincidentally or not, come from the German end of the recording sessions, are all Hammond driven and dominated. More like a lead instrument than a melodic/harmony one...either role which Lord always handled with a skill + aplomb head and shoulders above anyone else at the keyboards position, in my non-humble opinion.

Yeah nowadays there are hardly bands that have dominant organ, and I even wouldn´t include Purple there(yeah, hit me, hate me, bleed me, burn me!).
Not too sure about Phil Lanzon, I´ll tell you in 4 months...

It's not the organ itself, it's Jon Lord, dear friends! Don is a fine player but not even half as stylish and groovy as Jon. You can't replace some people and especially not by overplaying everything (sorry Don).

IMHO you can't compare him with Don. Don has more influence to the sound of DP than Phil has in Heep. To me Phil Lanzon is no replacement for Ken Hensley at all. He is not bad, but the trademarks this band had are not there anymore. I still like them, but the Ken Hensley part got almost lost. Phil is not an organ wizard like Ken, while Don is excellent in what he does. You may like him or not, but he has the ability to play an important part in DP, while to me Phil Lanzon is not such an important part in today's Heep...
