Rat Bat Blue is to me one of the best Jon's solos. It's long, powerful and damn energetic.

I also enjoy his solo in Highball SHooter, a different one, more ladi-back but also very powerful.

This is too hard...Maybe "burn". But I love some of his more melodic hammond stuff as well, like "Lalena" and "Keep on moving" or even his short but really moving solo from "I'm gonna stop drinkin'" in the PAL album.

His "Highway Star" solo from MADE IN JAPAN is killer! He, and Blackmore both, probably laid down their best solo's ever during that number, on that night.

Made in Japan is simply THE BEST live album ever!

For me (and I saw that I was not alone !), one of my favorite Jon Lord solos is the one in Lalena (particularly the beginning). It is definitely one of the most beautiful organ part I've ever heard.

For a slightly more recent vintage I think Solataire deserves a mention.

Highway Star, Burn easy picks...my favorites. But speaking of recent...more played than those recently has been the one on Fingers to the Bone. Not a million notes to the minute, but just facsinating and beautiful with the melody, and the way the harmonica hangs over the opening notes. Not unlike Ray Manzarek's solo on Crystal Ship. Just a nice moody piano solo, and rare to get JL piano solos on 80s and 90s DP albums. Can't think of any other piano solos during that time.

John H, keyboardist

I agree with JohnH totally!
Jon's solo in Fongers to the Bone (in the live version) usually consisted of some notes from "Pictured Within" and it made the song much better than the stduio version. I loved listening to it live back in 1999. Jon, please, come back!
