I don't understand VH1's venomous remarks about Europe. Why do they hate them more than any other hair band? They seem to pop up on all their worst/cheesiest lists. I think Nelson, for example, are a much worse take on hair/glam metal.

Keyboards don't belong in metal?? Yeah, right.

You're right.....they left out how incredible John Norum's guitar solo is on that song...I can't even begin to figure out how to play it, although the last time I tried to was at least five years ago and I'm much better on guitar now.

...a little off topic but does anyone remember the John Norum album "Back On The Streets"?
There is a killer track on that album called "Wild One",and it sounds alot like he's doing a Philip Lynott impression on vocals...anyway,in the opening lines he uses a Rod Evans lyric,er well it was written by Donavan, but you know where John took it from.

It wasn't "Wild One", it was "Too Many Hearts". And the album wasn't called "Back On The Streets", it was "Total Control".

Great album though. Norum is an excellent guitarist, although I'm not too convinced by the new Europe album.

Yes,now I remember,"Wild One" sounded alot like Lynott though,it's been too long since I heard that album,I must be confusing the title with a track on it called "Back On The Streets".Yes,TMH....ever notice that opening line from Lalenea?
Thanks John.

Yes, I don't think Norum's ever hidden his Purple/Blackmore influences.

Back On The Streets was indeed another track on the album. "Blind" was another - remember that? A total Still Of The Night rip-off!

...yes now I remember the SOTN clone, but thats one thing on that album I'm glad I forgot. emoticon
I remember thinking that the Lalenea bit was a ripp off too,but I soon got used to the track, and loved it so much, thats when I started to see it as a compliment, which is often the case with borrowing, but it can be deceiving sometimes.I even had to feel at the time that "Blind" was a steal too,but I know I was taking that one a bit too far,I had that CD around 1988 or so,and lost it to my girlfriend in the breakup,I'll have to put it on my wantlist.[I miss it alot more than her]
I know, being a Swede especially,he always did have a bit of Blackmore to him,but not of course as much as another Swede.[you know who]
I like the Stormbringer version he did w/Glenn Hughes.

The solo in Final Countdown is a good example, the RB influence is so obvious the solo could have been done as a tribute. Not that it's a sound-alike solo, but the chops are there.

Wasn't the Stormbringer thing on one of those tribute albums?
I think it's one of the ones with JLT on it,SOTW if I recall,a Shrapnell album with drummer Dean Castronovo playing on all of the tracks w/several good hair band artists.

Europe- That's NOT a metal band by any means- they're a pop-rock band and nothing more! As for that hair/glam metal thing, GNR is the glammest of the lot, and if I made that list, I would fill it with glam rock stuff!

Some stuff that should make such a list-
*Anything by Metallica from Load, ReLoad or St Anger.
*Anything by Queensryche from Hear in the Now Frontier
*"Bring Your Daughter...."
*At least one from Point of Entry by Judas Priest.
*Some Psycore stuff.
*"Dirty Love" by Thunder
*"Man Outta Time" by Tesla
*Anything by Warrant

If you ask me, a lot of 90's metal stuff, if you call it metal, may fit in there, with all the glammest of the hair bands.

Stormbringer with Hughes on it was on the tribute called SOTW and JLSqueely did Lazy while Widdle-vie Malmsteen crucufied the spirit of the tune.
The lp just made me appreciate the true power of DP, as all of the tunes (as played on the lp) on it would not be any of my favorites if they were originally done by the tribute artists.
