Any Jeff Healey fans here?

Anyone hear heard of Jeff's work? Personally he was breath of fresh air coming from all those 1980s axe-slingers. I just recently bought Into the Light (I lost my original copy) and have been playing it nonstop.

The guy is an awesome talent. Great guitar player. I thinks its amazing that he overcame his disability (blindness) and can play the guitar as good as anyone else out there. I also find it amazing that he pens all of his lyrics as well. My brother saw him once in concert and marveled about how great his performance was. According to my bro, Jeff's performance was as good as RB's during the time he caught Rainbow in 1980. He said the that during a show Jeff sits in a chair on stage with his guitar on his lap and a mic in front of him and is surrounded by just his bass player and drummer. During some intense hair-raising jam Jeff would get up from his chair kick it out and hold/play the guitar regular style.

For all you guitarist out there, is there any advantage to play the guitar the way Jeff plays it?

Jeff is fantastic!
Into the Light is great as is Get Me Some.
I also saw him live once in 1997 (had my ticket for another show, but then it was cancelled). I was very impressed by his playing and his kind of acting on stage. As you mentioned, most of the time he is sitting, his guitar on his knees, but sometimes he gets up, shakes a bit to the sound... He never plays the guitar in the common way though. Even when he plays standing his left hand is above the guitar neck.
Check this guy out, if you like bluesy rock!

There ain't many of us on this forum, but we're here! I'll search for some of my old posts regarding him at my first opportunity...whenever we discuss our personal favorites for guitar playing, Healey's nearly always gotten a mention from me.

Jeff Healey, my favourite Canadian guitarist. Some good one to chose from, Pat Travers,Rik Emett,Kim Mitchel,Alex Lifeson come to mind.

Jeff was born with some vision, but had cancer of the eyes, and sadly they were removed before he was one year old. emoticon emoticon

To answere bad mofo's question, sure there are some advantages (and some disadvantages). The way Jeff plays allows him to use his thumb in places a normal player could only dream of.

By the way the name of his first album is "See the Light" emoticon I like it to!

Yes, of course "See the Light". I just took the same name Bad Mofo wrote without thinking about it...

I just read an article on him. He's into playing jazz these days and is disgusted with the music industry. He owns a club in Canada and apparently has jams with some pretty top flight guest players there.
I saw him at a South Florida club around '95 and he was great.

My girlfriend was in Canada last year and she went to his club, where he played together with Steve Lukather! All I got was some pictures :-( ... Must have been great!

From his excellent "Cover To Cover" album. Killer stuff, indeed! emoticon
He's also the main reason to have the soundtrack to "Roadhouse" - more brilliant - and yes - killer stuff.
