And yes Rockman and Stephen are still part of the Jeff Healey band. For my $'s worth Jeff is one of the best guitarist's around today. Him playing on Gillan's new cd is worth the price of admission as far as I'm concerned. One last thing, The Jeff Healey Band is OUTSTANDING on doing covers. In fact I like their covers better than the original i.e.: Shapes of Things While My Guitar Gently Weeps Stop Breaking Down Stuck in the Middle Yer Blues Communication Breakdown The Moon is Full .....Hell the whole darn Cover to Cover album is awesome!!!!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Mofo Lives)Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:38:07 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41511,from=rss#post41511https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41511,from=rss#post41511Hi Well my fave record is actually Hell to pay where his and his band´s playing is a little bit more heavy than on See the light record. Is "the Jeff Healey Band" (the trio with Tom Stephen and... I forgot his name) still around? Was it that band who were houseband at the show? A great, great guitarplayer! As I said, check out Hell to pay!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Namnikufecin)Mon, 11 Apr 2005 09:40:23 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41510,from=rss#post41510https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41510,from=rss#post41510He's a great player and a decent singer, but he never wrote good enough songs. The most memorable thing he did was While My Guitar Gently Weeps - which is a really great version. The covers I've heard him do in general were good. Too bad he never made it to the big time, and this is only down to the 'fact' he just didn't have the songs for it. The last thing I heard from him was a track called Cruel Little Number. I was stunned by this song which sounded like a forgotten Bryan Adams b-side or something.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Mon, 11 Apr 2005 06:48:09 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41509,from=rss#post41509https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41509,from=rss#post41509"What makes Jeff Healey different from other blues-rockers is also what keeps some listeners from accepting him as anything other than a novelty — the fact that the blind guitarist plays his Fender Stratocaster on his lap, not standing up. With the guitar in his lap, Healey can make unique bends and hammer-ons, making his licks different and more elastic than most of the competition." - from AllMusic.com  I was just wondering if this statement regarding Healey's playing his Strat across his lap as opposed to standing was accurate? I'm not a guitar player (except for 'air guitar', which I don't think counts! ) so I was hoping some of our guitar playing forum members would care top comment on the accuracy of this statement...  I will say that since the mid-to-late 80s, Healey's been one of my personal "Top 10 Guitarists" and perhaps it's due to this 'extra' ability that playing his Strat while sitting down gives him that made/makes him stand out from the pack - at least for me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Sat, 09 Apr 2005 17:27:23 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41508,from=rss#post41508https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41508,from=rss#post41508{EL BUMPO}... in light of Healey's recent live jam session with Purple's Ian Gillan, I was thinking this thread might prove interesting to someone...besides me, that is!  I just can't decide whether to put the thread in "Non-Purple Discussions" or "Purple Discussions"...Healey's never been a member of Deep Purple or any of the 'family' bands, but he's sort of related now! nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Sat, 09 Apr 2005 16:39:55 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41507,from=rss#post41507https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41507,from=rss#post41507I watched the NHL year end hockey award show last night, from Toronto. Jeff Healey's band was the "house" band. They were smokin! Healey sounded better than ever. What a superb guitarist. What amazes me with his playing not so much the blindless but how he manages to play the guitar with it on his lap. The intro to the song See the Light is good on its own but considering that the man is blind and plays the guitar in that position makes the guitar playing even more remarkablenondisclosed_email@example.com (The Mule)Wed, 14 Apr 2004 12:41:33 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41505,from=rss#post41505https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41505,from=rss#post41505If you like Jeff Healey, then you have seen the light my friends. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gillans micstand)Tue, 13 Apr 2004 18:49:24 +0000 Re: Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41504,from=rss#post41504https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41504,from=rss#post41504quote:ByTor wrote: Jeff Healey, my favourite Canadian guitarist. If you've never heard this guy before, do yourself a favor and get this debut record. Not only will you'll be blown away be the playing, but his signing is top notch as well. Into the Light is great as is Get Me Some. I also saw him live once in 1997 (had my ticket for another show, but then it was cancelled). I was very impressed by his playing and his kind of acting on stage. As you mentioned, most of the time he is sitting, his guitar on his knees, but sometimes he gets up, shakes a bit to the sound... He never plays the guitar in the common way though. Even when he plays standing his left hand is above the guitar neck. Check this guy out, if you like bluesy rock!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Durple)Thu, 08 Apr 2004 21:07:49 +0000 Any Jeff Healey fans here?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41493,from=rss#post41493https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p41493,from=rss#post41493Anyone hear heard of Jeff's work? Personally he was breath of fresh air coming from all those 1980s axe-slingers. I just recently bought Into the Light (I lost my original copy) and have been playing it nonstop. The guy is an awesome talent. Great guitar player. I thinks its amazing that he overcame his disability (blindness) and can play the guitar as good as anyone else out there. I also find it amazing that he pens all of his lyrics as well. My brother saw him once in concert and marveled about how great his performance was. According to my bro, Jeff's performance was as good as RB's during the time he caught Rainbow in 1980. He said the that during a show Jeff sits in a chair on stage with his guitar on his lap and a mic in front of him and is surrounded by just his bass player and drummer. During some intense hair-raising jam Jeff would get up from his chair kick it out and hold/play the guitar regular style. For all you guitarist out there, is there any advantage to play the guitar the way Jeff plays it? nondisclosed_email@example.com (bad mofo)Thu, 08 Apr 2004 17:12:28 +0000
