Re: Deep Purple Family Discussion
Enjoyable show. Nice to see Gillan get such great remarks. I think Mr. Universe and Glory Road are better than any of the Rainbow or Whitesnake albums. Can't agree with them about DP MKI though. MKI is my second favorite DP Line up and I thoroughly enjoy those first 3 albums and, in fact, the Third Album, along with Fireball, are my favorite DP Albums.

Re: Deep Purple Family Discussion
for anyone who enjoyed it; keep an eye out on that channel.
Both Pete and Martin are fans of DP/family, and they cover quite a few Purple/related topics

Re: Deep Purple Family Discussion
I agree with Pete and Phil about Simon Mcbride fits better than Steve Morse in Deep Purple simply because McBride is a real hard rock and heavy metal guitarist.
I believe the new album will be his "Purpendicular".

Re: Deep Purple Family Discussion
For some reason, since Steve left, and after listening to a few shows with Mcbride, I've lost all interest in DP. They have been my favorite band since 1973. Maybe my interest will return if they release an excellent album.

So please tell us what you think. Why Morse is a better fit than McBride? The drawback is that McBride has a weak resume compared to other guitarists. Please enlighten us.

1.) you cannot review McBride fit into Purple as they dont have any record with them yet... Without record, there is simply nothing to really review.
2.) if you suppose that they will beat with him masterpieces like Purpendicular and Now What?! (which is the only way how he would prove himself as even better fit than Steve), okay... I dont expect that.
3.) my "issue" with Simon is not quality of his as guitarist, he is great one. But I felt that Morse brought much more interesting and valuable influence even to live shows (there is NONE song which would sound better with Simon than with Steve to me, but from current set, there are at least three songs which did sound MUCH better with Steve than with Simon sadly - Blind Man, Smoke and Strangers). Just two prime examples from last two "standard" albums - The Surprising and Man Alive both were born from Steve Morse´s ideas. Let me put it this way.... In terms of "overall" band sound, Simon is something like step back instead of step forward. He is hardrock guitarist, fine.... but hardrock influence is "more than enough" brought by Don Airey in recent records, what was the most interesting contribution of Morse is that he was NOT the hardrock influence...
And once more, in last decade, Deep Purple were STRONGEST in prog-influnced rock songs (Uncommon Man, Above & Beyond, Surprising, Birds Of Prey, Man Alive....), not in straightforward rock. I am afraid that crucial key of their strongest side in last decade is massively weaken, because Morse (quite often) disagreed with Don, McBride is creative partner of Don, I have doubts if he can also be creative opponent of his.

Re: Deep Purple Family Discussion
As of now the live performances are okay, he reminds me of the late great Gary Moore, though I prefer Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Joe Satriani, Doug Aldrich, John Sykes and others that I forgot. I decided to give McBride a chance to be in the same status as those guitarist in the coming future.
