While I do not share your assessment, you make a valid point. So the band must have fewer negative feelings toward TBRO?
I guess they don't have any feeling towards it at all. It's 36 years ago, there have been loads of other albums, it's forgotten.

MK Morse could have done this one, even using it as a vehicle for some extended displays of virtuosity within the context of an actual song (as in the days of yore), as apposed to the more contrived solo spot.
100% agreed. I think MK McB could do the same, either with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th solo or a combination of all four!!
Still think it would be a great song played live.

You may well be correct.

Re: HOBL
A very good album, I remember when it came out in 1987 I read about using "guitar synthesizer" just like the Judas Priest's "Turbo" if I remember correctly.
One of their albums with a longest playing time.
The only thing I don't like is this album doesn't have OUTTAKES.

Re: HOBL
I like the songs and the cover on HOBL.
The production sucks (the drums are all snare and not much else - always a feature of RG's mix and very 1980's) and JL's excessive use of Synth (not forgetting that RG is also credited for keyboards on the cover) means it doesn't SOUND like a DP album, Ritchies guitar sound is awful for most tracks and his playing at times is uninspired - Bad Attitude was, IMO, his worst solo up to that point.
As Cooky Crawford once said "They worked on The Unwritten Law way too long and completely rearranged it to sound more commercial with sequencers"
If ever there was a DP album which could do with a re-vist this is it. If the multi tracks still exist a re-mix would be great. On Hard Lovin Women there's some nice guitar bits buried deep in the mix for example, Strangeways would sound better if it wasn't all snare drum, there's some Hammond on Bad Attitude which, if brought up in the mix, would make it sound like a DP track. And if Roger had an early version of The Unwritten Law I'd love to hear it.

Re: HOBL
I assume that Jon Lord and the synths never really became friends ... Don Airey uses them much cleverer in my opinion.
