I totally agree.Plus, drop Lazy and play Mistreated.

I cannot imagine Mistraeted without Blackmore. And I'm not a Bolin hater. For me, the Whitesnake renditions always sounded like something substancial being removed.

Agreed but to my mind the drumming was a key factor - the Dowle versions sound limp but IP gave them back some welly and swing (and the swing was absent from the Whitesnake Purple Album!)

You've got a point there. I always liked Ian's drumming on that song much more than what Cozy did. So neither the Rainbow nor the Whitesnake version was really "perfect", nothing came close to DP Mk III.

As I side note, I really liked the subtle half-time shuffle feel David Keith put into Mistreated at the Rainbow 2016 and 2017 shows. But otherwise, it lacked the power of the earlier days.

With all respect towards Tommy Bolin, I cannot imagine that he would have done "justice" to the song. Mistreated is a Blackmore tune, regardless of how many musicians have tried to play it.

Agree. I never heard any other guitarist pull off the simple intro riff with the same intensity as Ritchie. Wisely, the old Whitesnake avoided it completely, poorly the recent Whitesnake tried and failed.

Re: Springfield full soundboard set

Now that I've had time for several listens I thought I'd sum up my impressions.

I dug out the original article from Darker Than Blue and it's clear that there was no confusion on Simon Robinsons part as to the set list (my mistake in my previous posts) but whatever copy he had cannot be the same as what was released recently as his article says Gettin' Tighter and Homeward Strut are incomplete. His article says the incomplete Comin' Home follows This Time Around but on the release it's followed by Owed To G then the guitar solo. I wonder if the maybe did a soundcheck to give the tapers some levels and had a run through Comin Home??

Simon's article also talked about some GH over dubs of which there is no evidence of on the release.

As others have said the mix is all over the place especially at the start. You can barely hear GH or TB in Burn and in Lady Luck TB is still too low and also JL. I think it settles down in Love Child which is a good version with a long JL solo. Gettin' Tighter is a glorious romp. TB appears to be absent for the start of Smoke which doesn't differ much from the other #4 versions. Lazy is probably my least favourite track - the guitar lacks fluidity and, strangely as it's blues based, doesn't suit DC vocally. Homeward Strut is great but odd that the choose a track from TB's solo album that's very keyboard orientated. This Time Around/Owed to G are good but the "guitar solo" is an unfocused mess and actually quite boring (If Liverpool's effort wasn't any better than this it's no wonder he got ripped apart). Drifter is better than the version that on the "This Time Around" release because the guitar is way better (obviously) Stormbringer is a bit of a mess but the other two live versions were as well. Going Down & Highway Star we already know.

So for me an essential purchase but I think in the main the Foxbat release got it mostly right in the choices and sounds better in the main.

one more thought. Simon's article doesn't mention Drifter from Springfield. I wonder if he confused Comin Home & Drifter?
