Springfield full soundboard set

Newly released bootleg is, supposedly, the full soundboard set. 3 songs (smoke, highway star & going down) were on the official release. I've ordered it from disc japan and will update on delivery. Quite excited - the three tracks previously released sound good.

From the original Simon Robinson sleeve notes to the official release "The first recording came from Springfield, MA on January 26th, some eight shows into the US tour. Sadly, whoever was in charge of the recording ballsed things up rather badly. While some numbers were complete, other suffered from premature fades.

This meant about half the gig was no good for broadcasting (one of the cuts was "Coming Home", which faded in about two thirds of the way through, a shame as it wasn't often performed live). The encores - "Going Down" and "Highway Star" - were intact.

So how come King Biscuit didn't go with what they could salvage? Well the main problem was the actual per-formance, which - while not the worst Mk 4 gig I've ever heard - isn't, how shall I put this, as together as it might be."

I think the reference to "Coming Home" is an error. I think he meant "Homeward Strut" as the whole album has now appeared on YouTube and the set is over 2 hours.

Judge for yourself #4 Springfield 1976

It doesn't sound like the performance is bad, just the sound mix is all over the place. I wonder if this was the in house mix, or just the sound board?

I agree. The show is good but has bad mix.

Could be that it was as the sound engineer had the levels on the night. I agree it's all over the place at the start but definitely improves from Love Child onwards.

I always thought that the mix of Highway Star and Going Down on the original CD release was better than the Long Beach tracks where the keyboard is very low in the mix and the drums too prominent. The sleeve notes don't mention that multi tracks were available to remix - it could well be that both gigs exist as copies of the mix on the night - so this may be as good as it gets

Listening to the whole show, Tommy's equipment has some sort of short, starting in Gettin' Tighter, and by the second half, the whole band is all over the place.Interesting take on Homeward Strut. Tommy melts down a bit during his solo spot, more than usual. Not their best night, but still glad to get to hear this. Sadly, it lays to rest the story that Comin' Home was played this night.

I always thought Comin Home would have made a great opening number for this tour with Burn being used as the first Encore number.

Lazy was in as it's a good feed to the drum solo. I think they could have included the drum solo in Getting Tighter Not sure TB would have been great -certainly would have been very different - in Mistreated.

I'd rather have has You Keep On Moving than Lazy
Comin' Home rather than Highway Star
Dealer rather than Smoke
