The first Rainbow album really could have benefited from a virtuoso keyboardist. Soule provided only the most rudimentary playing, especially for a Rainbow album. Lord would have been great on that material. But, in the end, I'm glad he didn't join as RISING would have been a completely different animal had Lord played on it. Don't get me wrong, Lord is my favorite keyboardist of all time, but Carey brought something unique that just worked for Rainbow. Ritchie should have never let him go. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kinski)Wed, 15 Sep 2021 13:09:46 +0000 Re: Fantasy guest appearances!https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523195,from=rss#post523195https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523195,from=rss#post523195quote:fdr wrote: Sometimes I fantasize about improbable but inspiring collaborations that I'd love to have seen and heard. These are some that come to mind right now. What are yours? (The wilder, the better!) Ian Gillan singing Burn in 1974 ...and of course, Paul Rodgers singing Mistreated. Problem is that Burn wouldn't be Burn if Gillan/Glover had written the lyrics, same with Mistreated. I would like to hear Rodgers sing Mistreated. I would've liked to have to heard Errol Johnstone play Highway Star. I'd like to hear Lachy Doley to play anything Deep Purple. I would've liked if Joe Cocker had guested on Roger Glover's Snapshot (there are some seriously good songs on that CD that Joe would've nailed). Current line of Deep Purple playing A Light in the Black. nondisclosed_email@example.com (DeepOz)Wed, 15 Sep 2021 09:29:38 +0000 Re: Fantasy guest appearances!https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523194,from=rss#post523194https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523194,from=rss#post523194Jon Lord on 16th Century Greensleeves and Still I'm Sad.nondisclosed_email@example.com (doggone)Tue, 14 Sep 2021 18:52:47 +0000 Re: Fantasy guest appearances!https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523193,from=rss#post523193https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523193,from=rss#post523193I always wonder how much better (for me) the Burn album would have been, if Gillan had written the vocal melodies and the lyrics. Imagine "Might Just Take Your Life" with a Gillan line instead of the imo boring vocals of Coverdale and Hughes. nondisclosed_email@example.com (UncommonMan)Tue, 14 Sep 2021 16:26:25 +0000 Fantasy guest appearances!https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523192,from=rss#post523192https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p523192,from=rss#post523192Sometimes I fantasize about improbable but inspiring collaborations that I'd love to have seen and heard.
