Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
That's what I heard from some sources "close to reliable". Nothing else, nothing confirmed - but that might explain a relatively short time to put together a new LP...
Javelins pt. 2?

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
It's about time that Purple makes a covers album!!!
I don't think it's a short time, Beginning December 2020 or January 2021, maybe a few covers but I don't think it's entirely covers, becaise if that's the case they don't need Bob Ezrin just to make covers album. They don't need all this gimmick just to make covers album.

Javelins pt. 2?
It'll be better than either of the Javelins albums. Both suffer from really poor production & performance.

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
Please - lets be patient and dont spread rumours.
Also - its not that soon after recording of Whoosh! Whoosh! was completely done in summer of 2019 - and original June release date which was postponed due to Covid to August was something which should be taken into consideration. When I re-listened latest interviews with IG or Steve its possible to conclude they were talking about standard new studio album, not cover album. Let´s just wait - I dont believe in cover album rumour at all.

1. Please, note the question mark at the title of this thread
2. My source seems to be rather accurate (unless he's playing some jokes) - but I can only quote what I heard. On the other hand - where else and with whom can we share the rumours like this one ?
3. Time for putting the LP together was relatively short. During most of 2020 and Q1 2021 flights and chances of getting together were more than problematic. When it finally became possible, Purple might have taken their chance and gather in some studio to record some music. As there were no chances for writing sessions, it's possible that they decided to record some music they all knew, to save the time - who knows?
4. Having said that - I would be more than happy to hear some new music rather than covers (Roadhouse Blues is not the best thing on the Infinite LP, even And the Address doesn't seem to convince...).

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
Maybe it's true, just maybe but.......
They recorded album of new materials and they also recorded album of consisting of covers at the same for future release.
Again, maybe (true or false).
1) TURNING TO CRIME - new materials
2) ??? - album of covers for future release.
These things happens, one recording session worth two or more albums, examples are:
METALLICA - Load & Re-Load
RADIOHEAD - Kid A & Amnesiac
There could be more, which I am not aware or forgot.

If a rumour creates more interest then rumour away - i'll start.
I've heard they're going to cover a Blackmore's Night track

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
For sure Gillan, answering a question about the recent And the address version, answered "there's more to come". So maybe they reworked some old DP material?

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
Maybe it is the "white album" where they cover classic Whitesnake tracks or a "white Wonder" EP where they cover classic Glenn Hughes tracks and tour on the back of them...business is business!

Re: Turning to Crime - an album with covers?
It is certain that Ian Gillan recorded an album of Rockabily covers with Bob ezrin in 2019 which hasn't been released yet...
