Still looking forward to a new effort though, sticking two fingers up to old age!

But they are not sticking two fingers to old age though are they? They sound like an old tired band.
The recent Ezrin albums have been decent enough but are pretty much easy listening and nothing like the hard rock the band made their name on.
Enjoyable? yes but hardly inspiring.
I listen to those albums a few times on release and enjoy them but then seldom revisit them.

I don't really think that way. They are more relaxed now and try other styles - Like Blood from a Stone or like more proggy things on Woosh. Sure, it's not a revolution any more like In Rock was, it's not the same power any more as Made in Japan.
But hey - I also grew older. I'm not into headbanging any more (never really was, but anyway) but can do it a bit more laid back now. So I really like the ways they try to develop. Some of these attempts maybe don't work but some of them I find very enjoyable.

As you so often quote Iron Maiden as example who still have power and energy: I'm definitely not an expert on their catalogue, just listened to Book of Souls lately - and was bored although the songs themselves are not bad. I just thought "Oh well, that's the old formula again. A bit slow and dramatic here and then out of a sudden let's jump into galopp" (in German there's a nice term "pig's galopp" which describes the typical Maiden rhythm pretty well IMHO). Don't get me wrong, they are a great band but I was mildly disappointed that it's still pretty much the same without the (for me recognizable) attempt to do something new.

So tastes differ and I'm definitely looking forward to Pruple's new (still hypothetical) record!

You may be correct in a certain way. IM still tries to rock hard these days. I don't think that DP has done that since the early 2000's, maybe before that. I can't deny their talent, but the energy just isn't there. I'll get the new album. Whoosh was a bit of a letdown to me after Infinite. emoticon We'll see.

Thats fair enough tastes do indeed differ and of course change as we all inevitably age.
Strange thing is though that you feel Maiden stick to formula? whilst many old school Maiden fans are not happy with the way Maiden have "changed" over the years ie they think they are now too prog metal and want them to return to the faster shorter songs instead of the long epics that they have been doing pretty much since Bruce and Adrians return 20 years ago.
I do agree Maiden are instantly recognisable i suppose that comes from the classic lineup still being together after all those years.Theres an authenticity about Maiden that DP have lost for me since the departures of Blackers and Lord.
Personally i think Maiden have aged superbly well i love all the post reunion albums and i think the band have grown and matured over the years.
As ive stated many times i do enjoy the MK Morse albums but they dont excite me ,and if any band has become formulaic over the year then its MK Morse DP even down to using the same guitar solo many times over.I will of course buy any new album they come up with and probably enjoy it for a while then it will fall of my playlist like the other recent ones.

Iron Maiden is younger by 12 years, they would be the same in 2033. emoticon

We can compare Deep Purple's "Turning to Crime" with some old rock bands latest albums...
Yes - The Quest
Alice Cooper - Detroit Stories
Kansas - Absence of Presence
Styx - Crown of Creation
Scorpions - TBA
and others

Quite frankly - nothing bores me more on this forum than litb0 crap repeated endlessly again, again, again and again. We got it - you dont get current Purple. Nothing less nothing more. Leave it for good please, we read it more than enough times from you.

Okay, I don't enjoy Steve Morse solo, I want a real hard rock guitarist.

But you got to give it to these guys.

When many says your not gonna make UK top 10 anymore.... Booom! They hit UK #6 with INFINITE. Many says your not gonna hit UK top 10 agin.... Booom! They hit UK #4 with WHOOSH, higher than PERFECT STRANGERS.

Even though I want a new hard rock guitarist, I gotta give to Morse, he did it with Deep Purple.

I like the Ezrin albums although I think Whoosh lacked some edge - but thats not an indictment on Bob. Would be good to get a different producer if there is another album to get them to mix it up.

They wil give it heavier edge if wanted in live enviroment. Like they did with Apres Vous (that was much heavier live than on NW?!), Bedlam or Birds Of Prey. emoticon

Yes - The Quest

Purple should have no trouble in comparison to the current offering from Yes. The first two released tracks from THE QUEST are boring and lifeless. But, as far as I'm concerned, the last brilliant Yes album was DRAMA back in '80, so I'm not expecting much.

Purple's energy level is also declining greatly with each album all the way back to BANANAS, so like every album since then there will some good tracks and those that go pretty much no where. But Gillan and Glover both are rapidly approaching 80 years old. We're absolutely in uncharted waters with men of this age playing this style of music. You can't expect the fire of '69-'73 anymore. Heck, even the brilliant concerts we got from '93-'01 are in the distant past now.

Rick Rubin (lover and ultimate supporter of loudness war, where Death Magnetic sounded better in Guitar Hero than on real album....) producing DP is my worst nightmare after he botched Sabbath reunion with superboring 13. We would probably praise Bradford after that!
