Have been watching some more clips from the London show. A few impressions:

- Foreigner. Well performed and well sung but is it Foreigner or a professional tribute act?

- Whitesnake. With DC positioned by himself out on the platform much of the time, it illustrates the problem with today's WS. They are just a group of hired guns backing up the star. With the star missing his trademark voice, things get a bit shallow. While there has been no real decline of his voice in the last 3 years or so, he is much helped by the downtuning which allows him to stay in a comfortable range, only slighly above "talk singing". But this is like the Rock of Ages version of Whitesnake. The approach feels dated. Slow an Easy misses its signature intro and goes straight into the riff. DC hardly sings the song. In Ain't No Love he is "ghosted" by Dino the whole time, even during the verses. I mean, what's the point?

i agree with pretty much all of that

1.Thats NOT Foreigner it is indeed a tribute act!!Theres nobody in the band who had anything to do with their classic tracks .I know Mick rolls on a for a few tracks at the end but its really not Foreigner is it.

2. This is hard to say as hes a musical hero of mine but DC needs to retire from live performances hes finished vocally and looks ridiculous!!! im glad hes decided to do just that after this tour.
He has as always surrounded himself with great musicians but he is the star of the show and as he cant do it anymore its time to stop.

I agree with you here, light. The present day Foreigner, though, puts on a fine show. They may not be the same bunch after 40+ years, but they are professionals and bring it each time.

I'm with you on Coverdale. It's time to hang it up. One last hurrah and call it a day. The same with IG. There is nothing left. This situation with Morse was a good time to either end it, or go on hiatus for a year or more. Maybe Gillan would be rested enough to do one true farewell tour. A dozen or so cities in Europe and the States and put the band to bed. That wasn't going to happen, obviously, I doubt that there will be anything left for Steve to come back to, as far as IG is concerned. Too bad. emoticon

Off to see them in Nottingham tonight. Looking forward to it, as I have managed expectations. He is 70, and an absolute musical hero of mine. He has made some wonderful music. I hope to enjoy most of it! And have any toilet/bar break penciled in for the guitar/keyboard and/or Tommy being Animal bit! Be interesting to see what I feel afterwards...

I'm interested to hear your views. On the whole I enjoyed Newcastle but like you I managed my expectations. I do feel that David has aged during the whole Covid period, he seems older than the performer last seen at Download in this country.

Re: 2022 tour

I really enjoyed it! Going with relatively low expectations (but also with a positive, thank-you DC & the first gig back post Covid excellent mood) helped quite a bit, of course. Tommy seemed to fit in, and being on Reb's side of the stage helped me to appreciate him as well. I lost myself a bit in the memories hearing Still of the Night and I am very pleased I went. Great to see a city with lots of folks wearing Whitesnake t-shirts & I felt the band was very well received.

I went with my other half, who loves live music, although rock like WS isnt something she listens too much. Here I go Again and Is this Love is all she had heard before. I 'warned her'about the real vocal issues (went on & on a fair bit!) and so I was interested how she saw it. She enjoyed it, said he was a really good front man, who looked and sounded his age. Which accords to how you saw his aging!

What also helped, for me, was Europe. They were great. A friend went to Newcastle and said security delays led to a lot of folks not getting in for Europe. Nottingham had a load of people in, and for a 45 minute opening set, they've got some great songs and played em good. And Foreigner also helped, for me. I went for fresh air and a pint of Heineken on the concourse! - not my cup of tea!

Thanks. I'm only sorry they've dropped TMWY and Trouble is your middle name so soon.
But, not everyone have respect of what is David doing. Just see this:

I agree, I was looking forward to TMWY. The "fighting" story is true and I also think the concept of WS continuing without DC is probably on the cards but I really don't think Dino is front man material, even if he has a great voice.

If David is going to continue recording it would be great if he could do a track with Ritchie again... pie in the sky I know.

One could argue anyway that Foreigner manage to capture and keep the original spirit of the band way better than this incarnation of Whitesnake does. Personally, I consider Foreigner the real thing, not the case with Coverdale's band: his physical presence isn't enough.

This version of Foreigner is incredibly slick and I do agree they keep the spirit of early Foreigner flying quite nicely but I find them difficult to like. The lead singer gets on my tits to be honest and there are no real personalities but they are professional. I like the drummer... seen him before somewhere.:-)

Wow! I've just realized Chris had been their drummer for 10 years. He was great in WS.
And when it's about keeping the spirit of the band, I don't know, it's a very uncertain area, this Theseus ship paradox.

No I gave it a miss this time daniel first tour I've missed since lovehunter in 79 but to be honest I have felt there's nothing left for a long time now ,sadly DC has become a parody of former glories .Still love his music though .
