Re: 2022 tour

Going to be keeping off here after tonight for a bit as I wasnt to keep setlist a surprise.

Be interested if some Flesh & Blood makes it on as that album never toured in UK.

Guarantees are:

ITL
FFYL
HIGA
SoTN

Strongly suspect LANS will make the cut but wonder whether ANLITHOTC will make it for sentimental reasons.

Would love Burn and DBMHA to make it but suspect they won't

It's what you would expect really... and sounds OK, David sounds OK. It is what it is. One surprise tune I guess. Would be nice to mix it up but with Doug gone... never gonna happen.

I'm a bit surprised they kept two Flesh an blood tracs from the last tour in the set. I like that. Nice to hear TMWY again. The rest is as usual.

Re: 2022 tour

If this really is a farewell tour this is a strange set, apart from maybe Take Me With You. Lots of opportunities here to cover the whole Whitesnake era, like he did back in 1997 with the RH Tour.

This just seems like an extension of the Flesh and Blood Tour with a couple of new faces.

Good luck covering old Whitesnake with subtlety with this Mike Tyson version of WS emoticon

Re: 2022 tour

Whitesnake+Foreigner+Europe - Glasgow, 12th May 2022

Some observations

1. Dino Jelusick takes some of the vocal load off DC. He sings the occasional line himself here and there (eg 'In the still of the night, in the cool moonlight " and the opening "love ain't no stranger") and I suspect a lot of folk didn't notice or didn't care it wasn't DC all the time. DC trades a few lines with him in Slide It In. There is no attempt to hide Dino's contribution, except possibly for one part of the set where DC had his back to us and Dino was singing. He plays keys (and keytar) for the whole set. I suspect that he may start to take more of a role if DC's voice starts to deteriorate during the tour.

2. Tanya is a good bass player but has a very trebly, twangy sound and it doesn't fit with the subtle as a brick style of Aldridge. It did sound better as the set progressed but I don't think they are a natural rhythm section.

3. The sound for Whitesnake and Europe wasn't good. Whitesnake just came over as a wall of sound at some points. I struggled to hear Reb Beach at all and Tanya was low in the mix at the start. DC's vocals were also low in the mix

4. We got Burn in Glasgow, not Take Me With You.. it was the Purple Album version of Burn with extra twiddliness. We also didn't get Trouble Is Your Middle Name.

5. Europe were very good. I missed the first 15 minutes of their set but enjoyed the remainder. I find them a very patchy live band, but have a theory about this. The times I've not particularly enjoyed them is when they are in the middle of a three band package or as part of a double headliner. I think they work well as opener with a relatively short set, or as headliner. My theory is that the early material is so different from the mid or late period material that it is hard to get a good balance. Tonight the balance was in favour of 80s material and it worked well. When they headline the material is balanced towards the new. When they are in the middle it is a compromise set and it quite often doesn't work. My theory anyway 😁

6. Foreigner are a fabulous live band and were the band of the night for me. I could have done without the drum and keyboard solo (two extra songs please) but they were so good. Mick Jones came out for the three song encore and looked very old and quite frail.

7. Three-bands + four hours = sore back. Seats for me next time! 😁

Thanks for the review, John.

I also suspected Foreigner would come out on top. They are a well oiled machine with Kelly Hansen able to substitute DC on short notice.

Was there a lot of stage banter from DC given this being the farewell tour?

Not a lot, no. He thanked us for being on the 50 year 'journey' with him, but there wasn't really much banter about it being a farewell.

I've read lots of negative comments about WS's performance at this gig. I thought they were ok, although the sound was poor. Is "ok" good enough for a band at this level? DC's vocal deterioration is obvious, but for me he has surrounded himself with a band that almost compensates for it, so I found the vocals acceptable. Others thought not.

I like aldridge on the whole for his distinct style, but it is curious that he has to hit the snare with a full whack in the verses to ain’t no love.

I thinks he's a basher with no finesse whatsoever. The drum solo is impressive the first time you see it but to be honest I preferred Chris Frazier's solo spot with Foreigner.
