Re: Rate the marks!
I think that best vocalist ever for DP is still Ian Gillan. For me:
Gillans voice = Deep Purple
In 1973 and in 1989 when he left a band, I think that Coverdale/Hughes and JLT was only "replacement"! I think that typicall Purple sound was ALWAYS in Gillan voice (yes Hammond Organs and Guitar was important too, but voice is voice... )! What does it mean? No Gillan on mike = No Deep Purple!!! Coverdale is good singer; Hughes is great singer, but noone of them could sing like Gillan!!
AND JLT???
I read, that JLT once said: "I think that DP without Ritchie on guitar aren´t DP", but I´m replying: "I think that DP without Gillan on mike aren´t DP"! And his sentences about JLT version of TBRO??? I think that it must be only bad joke! In lyrics of TBRO are a lot of "Gillanisms" - lyrics are Ian job!!! NOT JLT!!!

Re: Rate the marks!
NEWSFLASH!! NEWSFLASH!!
Good evening and welcome to NEWSFLASH.
Our headline story today is the results from the poll "Rate the marks" and after 36 years finally we know what mark is the most popular among hard core fans. And with less surprise we notice that the classic mk II has won the popularity contest.
Their successor, 70's outfit mk III hold a strong second place, while '60s act mk I surprisingly climb to a decent third place from earlier rankings.
None of the short-timers Bolin, Lynn Turner or Satriani caught many votes each this time, Lynn Turner none actually.
We see that as a proof of honest voting.
Thanks everyone for participating!
Poll is now closed.

Re: Rate the marks!
I think that you meant that MKIII came in a strong second. MKI and MKIIb&c tied for third, outdoing the newer versions. The MKII line-ups seemed to dominate the voting.
Either way, it seems to show that no matter what we think of the newer Morse-led stuff, the Blackmore-led line-ups still hold a significant edge, especially seventies crews.
Good poll.

Re: Rate the marks!
Errm... of course. Yes. Right. I've taken care of it now. Thanks! ('trying to laugh it away-smiley')
Concerning the tie, it's a bit surprising to me mk II b and c turned out a tie. I thought PS would have made an edge there.
Nevertheless the NEWSFLASH profile required focus on the greatest surprise, and I found that to be mk I come in third. And I only had one bronze medal in stock!
