Re:

There's a fairly weak one on Out of Hand before the first chorus as well. Just going to listen back to Get Me Outta Here as cannot remember that but not my favourite track.....Edit: remembered it as soon as I started the song.

I don't mind hearing the odd scream on record, just wish that Space Truckin' would be retired from the live set haha.

Yeah...I guess I didn't quite classify that but good point. You wouldn't have thought I'd listened to that album 20+ times would you.

I heard all the songs and here is my early review of the albums. I will review this as:
1. critic (what my mind tells me)
2. fan (what my heart tells me)

As a "critic", the best I could give this is a -7/10.
There is few memorable heavy rock guitars here. I dont like some of the guitar solos here, for me Steve Morse guitar style is boring.

If the guitarist is Steve Vai or Uli Jon Roth or Guthrie Govan or Paul Gilbert or Joe Satriani or Michael Schenker or Eric Johnson or James Byrd or....
I would rate this 8/10 or 9/10!

As a "fan", I'm very happy they released this historic album, the first rock band to have studio albums in 7 decades: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s, a feat only a few bands will accomplished. The songs will grow on you, the album cover is a masterpiece.

I will rate this album a perfect 10/10. Thats 10 out of 10.

The final verdict is the heart wins, it's a perfect 10.

Have to agree about the guitar work Randys
SM is a brilliant technician but i just feel that a harsher or harder tone to his guitar sound would elevate some of the tracks (and of course a bit of imagination with the soloing).I dont think there is anything on this album from SM that we haven't all heard before ad nauseam .
His guitar work is efficient but just a bit too nice and predictable.
I find this particularly disappointing as i felt his work on Infinite was his best ever DP studio work.
That said after listening to the album about 10 times straight through now i am now of the opinion that this is indeed a decent album ,but still a fair bit below the last 2.
I still really like the same tracks that i liked to start with, but find the dull ones have grown on me a little but are still dull.
Paicey is excellent on this album, there are more than few subtle standout moments from him on this album.

Morse style does not surprise me or energized me like other hard rock guitarist. Eric Johnson's style has more edge for me than Morse.

When Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden to be replace by Janick Gers, when Adrian returns they decides to keep Janick and now they have a triple guitar attack. I hope they add another guitarist, so Morse will not only trade solos with Airey but with a co-guitarist, as long as he is the only guitarist DP will never produce a real hard rock album again, but thats just me, others will disagree.

By the way Gillan is not only singing but sometimes speaking, but its okay since the lyrics now is getting deeper. I still like his singin' in studio album.

Somehow WHOOSH has a tiny smell of being a concept album. I dont know.

Interesting how an instrumental - "And the Address" (album 1, side 1, track 1) has been recorded by Mark VIII, love to hear Mark VIII record another instrumental - "Owed to G" - owed to me!!

"And another thing: I think this is the first DP album with Gillan where he doesn't do his trademark scream not even once."

Ian for the last time managed to do this with a level of quality or integrity on TOOLBOX.
Aside from that he lost it after he left DP in 1973.

Most screams after that were awful, not on par with what we loved on for example Made in Japan or WDWTWA.

The Grand Whooooaaaarggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh????
