Dealer

I can't be the only one to absolutely love this song. Easily the best number from mk IV. And one of the best from Purple ever. Tommy Bolin on vocals and his banjo playing is superb!!

And TB’s kind of writing interesting riffs. The outro riff of Dealer is wonderful. Also the main theme of Homeward Strut and so many more ....

A very under rated song on a very under rated album. My favorite from this album is Drifter. I still remember buying this album when it came out in 1975 and being blown away by the opening song, Comin Home. If not for drugs, this line up could have made it.

Drifter is great too. Imagine the beating this lineup would have gotten if we'd internet in the seventies. The singer(s) said this and that, where is Blackmore and on and on.. emoticon

The internet would have went wild with rumors. CTTB in my mind was much better than SB I wish they would have opened up with Comin Home and saved Burn as an encore. There are no bad songs on this album.

There has been enough "beating" like that before Internet Age. It just went through other channels. When JLT joined the band, the DPAS fan magazine exploded of condemnation.

As much as I love Stormbringer, these days CTTB is just slightly ahead.

I was totally unaware of all the rumors and bad talk in those days. And just as happy that I was too...

I remember the beating the JLT line up took in the DPAS magazine. So did the last Rainbow album, SIUA. A few folks quit their subscription because of Simon's review of SIUA. I don't know why as Simon, like everyone else, has a right to his views. I have all those magazines in a large plastic case. Haven't looked at them since I got married 9 years ago. Have to pull them out sometime.

I was one of these guys who quit their subscription because I've had enough of Simon's ongoing Blackmore bashing. I tolerated it some years (it started in 1989 when Gillan was fired from DP, I still read the mag when SIUA was released in 1995), but in 1998 or so I gave up. Enough was enough. Yes, it's his right to write what he wants, and it's my right to decide whether I read it or not.
