I have wet dreams of when David will do such anniversary releases for the catalogue 1978-1983

He can't, he doesn't own the rights to them...

In fact, I only dream emoticon

I agree with this. What really upsets me is the production. I do wonder if it would sound better as a stripped down album, more in the style of Slide It In. Fool For Your Loving was a massive mistake, imho. My least favourite studio album but Im still looking forward to this release.

Yes, he recently bought the rights for these two albums back.

A double release of these two would be brilliant. Love them both.

Who does own the rights to the early WS albums? I recall DC saying it was his former manager, and I assumed he was referring to John Colletta, who is now deceased. And the albums have been reissued before, so would the owner not support an expanded reissue?

I don't know what happened to the rights after DP Overseas went bankrupt. Maybe somebody wants too much for the rights at the moment and DC could only afford buying the right to the two solo albums...

I agree. For me, the worst record WS ever made. Some songs are good, but overproducrion kills them. Vai is a GREAT gutar player, but I don’t like his playing on the album.

Maybe it was a perfect storm of bad ideas, the success of 1987, craziness of the late 80’s, trying too much, showing off etc. The foundation is mostly there and some songs could be really great without all of the unnecessary gymnastics. It’s a pitty that his still great vocal abilities weren’t put to better use back then.

I don't think the songs on SOTT were strong enough overall and even the better numbers were not as good as the better numbers from 1987. Also, the whole album suffered from a ridiculous amount of overplaying, primarily by Steve Vai. WS had the world at their feet prior to SOTT being released and I just remember the sheer sense of anti-climax when I first heard it. Sure, it was always going to be a challenge following up the 1987 record, but I expected something much, much better than what we eventually got, especially when guys like Kalodner were still supposed to be overseeing the quality of the material.

Re: Slip Of The Tongue - 30th Anniversary release

Just arrived in the post and i'm listening to the monitor mixes CD.

Without wishing to sound disappointed..It sounds so much better than the original release as the sonic soundscape is wider..more bass and dynmaic instead of being compressed to hell and back.

Sadly it's without guitar solos so to me a massive near miss. If they'd left the solos on it would've sounded great but as it is it'll get a couple of listens and be consigned to the back of the shelf.

Shame.

I've just got to Ain't Gonna Cry No More (i kid you not- perhaps they were thinking of covering it on the album)

Final proof, if it was needed, of how sh*te TA's drumming is compared to Ian Paice. Thank f*ck they never put it on the album.
